Baseball: Fremd shuts out Glenbrook North

A quick start paved the way to a big shutout win for Fremd's baseball team on Saturday.

The Vikings rolled up a 9-run first inning and were up 12-0 after two innings en route to a 16-0 nonconference victory over Glenbrook North.

Austin Higgins led the way for Fremd with 3 hits, including a double. He also drove in 3 runs.

Charlie Towns (2 hits) and Connor Giusti (2 RBI) also come up big at the plate.

Winning pitcher TJ Davis had a strikeout and allowed just 1 walk in two innings.

Fremd is now 10-6 on the season.

St. Viator splits: St. Viator (10-4) went 1-1 in a doubleheader against Nazareth, winning the first game 5-4 but losing the second, 9-3.

In the first game, winning pitcher Jack Mahoney chalked up 8 strikeouts over six innings while Eric Adams led the offense with a double and an RBI. In the second game, Casey Hintz, Jake Pulikowski and Michael Purk all had doubles for the Lions.

Maine South 8, Elk Grove 6: Bobby Rinaldi and Mike Altman each drove in 3 runs for Maine South. O'Brien had 2 hits on the day while Altman had one, a double. Timmy O'Brien (2 hits, 2B) also came up big for the Hawks (13-7). Winning pitcher Michael Yager had 3 strikeouts over five innings. For Elk Grove (7-7), Ryne Singsank, Matt Crimmins and Shane Crimmins each had 2 hits. Both of Matt Crimmins' hits were triples while both of Singsank's hits were doubles.

New Trier 4, Barrington 0: Barrington dropped to 15-4 on the season with the shutout loss. Clark Elliott had a double for the Broncos. New Trier scored all of its runs in the fourth inning.

Schaumburg gets swept: Schaumburg lost both games of a doubleheader to Lake Zurich, 3-2, 1-0. In both games, Schaumburg (7-8) managed to outhit Lake Zurich, 7-5, 5-3. In the first game, Albert Kiszka and Armen Torosian each had 2 hits. In the second game, Peter Kandefer had a double.

Jacobs 23, Conant 11: An 11-run second inning fueled Jacobs' offensive explosion. For Conant (4-13), Keegan Brandt and Christian Seegers each had 3 hits. Brandt also drove in 2 runs and one of Seegers' hits was a home run. Meanwhile, teammate Teague Conrad drove in 3 runs on 2 hits, including a home run.
