Softball: Rudnick, Schaumburg top Hoffman Estates

Senior Tiffani Rudnick enjoyed a 4-for-5 day at the plate with a double, 3 RBI and 3 runs to lead the Schaumburg offense in a 12-8 Mid-Suburban West softball triumph at Hoffman Estates on Thursday.

Also collecting multiple hits for the Saxons (6-10, 3-3) were Abbie Greenberg (2-for-3, 2B, 2 runs) and Tatiana Cooper (2-for-3, 2B). Talia Torosian added a double for Schaumburg, which received an 8-hitter and 3 strikeouts from freshman Morgan Miller (3-6).

Brianna Venegas (2-for-4), Emily Grossi (2-for-4, 2B) and Ayanna Ward (2B) led the offense for the Hawks (1-12, 0-4). Grossi struck out five.

Palatine 24 Conant 6 (4 inn): The Ballpark at Rosemont welcomed back two of its Bandits alumni in Conant coach Allie Bauch and Pirates coach Nicole Pauly Capalbo.

The Pirates (13-1) made it 13 straight wins and improved to 5-0 in the MSL West.

Junior Rhiann Dick (3 innings), now 10-1, and freshman Kelly Beach (1 inning) each struck out three.

Grace Huff (3-for-4, 3B, 2B, 3 runs) had 5 RBI for the second straight game. Other multiple hitters for Palatine were Amanda Stanczuk (2-for-5, 4 runs, 2B, 2 RBI), Dick (3-for-3, 3 RBI), Emily Parrott (2-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI), Kaitlyn Reed (3-for-3, 4 RBI, 3B, 2 runs), Anna Selleck (2-for-4) and Mandy Logan (2-for-2, 3 RBI). Teammates Kayla Courtney and Chase Friel each added doubles.

Host Conant (1-10, 1-4) received doubles from Katie Maze and Julia Flaishaker while teammates Morgan Long and Hannah Oh each had singles.

Leyden 5, Addison Trail 3: Sophomore Bre Deutscher fired a 4-hitter with 5 strikeouts as the host Eagles improved to 13-2 at the Ballpark at Rosemont.

Leading the Leyden offense were Tara Mackey (3-for-4, 3B, 2 runs), Elyse McLaughlin (2-for-2) while Kailey Kirkwood (3B) and Elle Engelke each had 1 hit.

Kaneland 13, Barrington 3 (5 inn.): The downstate Washington tourney brought together the No. 14 team in Class 4A (Barrington) and No. 12 in Class 3A (Kaneland), which improved to 10-3.

Barrington (10-2) was limited to 3 hits, a triple from freshman Brynn Nevers and singles by senior Kendall Peterson and freshman Sydney Granby.

Fillies senior Barbara Covek (9-2) struck out three in 2⅓ innings while Jackie Albrecht also had 3 strikeouts in the final 2⅔ innings.
