Baseball: Huntley duo stymies Crystal Lake South

Huntley pitchers Kyle Maurer and James Sibert did not allow an earned run in a 6-3 Fox Valley Conference victory over Crystal Lake South Thursday.

Maurer (3-0) was touched for 3 runs, all unearned due to 3 errors. The right-hander held the Gators to 2 hits, walked 4 and struck out 3 in 5 innings. Sibert did not allow a hit or a walk in 2 innings to earn his second save.

Evan Tocmo padded a 1-run lead with a 2-run home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth. Jason Peters doubled and knocked in 2 runs for Huntley (14-4, 8-2), which won its fourth straight to move into first place in the FVC.

Nick DiBenedetto pitched 6 innings in the third straight loss for Crystal Lake South (8-7, 4-7).

Cary-Grove 11, Dundee-Crown 2: LJ Waco hit a second-inning grand slam to lead an 11-hit attack for the Trojans. Quinn Priester (5-0) did not allow a baserunner in 3 perfect innings and struck out four for Cary-Grove (12-4). Joey Marczyk allowed only 2 earned runs in the loss for Dundee-Crown (4-12, 0-8).

West Aurora 12, East Aurora 0: The Blackhawks clinched an Upstate Eight series win with a five-inning victory in Game 2. Winning pitcher Logan Mont allowed 2 hits in 3 scoreless innings and struck out five, and Danny Marion doubled and drove in 3 runs for West Aurora (12-4-1, 8-2-1).

South Elgin 8, Larkin 0: Winning pitcher Andy Jachim threw 5 scoreless innings, allowed 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 5 for Upstate Eight Conference leader South Elgin (11-2, 9-1). Edward Wisser took the loss for Larkin (1-15, 1-10).

Glenbard East 19, Elgin 0: Tim Mitchell (double), Kyle Coates and Cam Kendall had the only hits in this Upstate Eight loss for Elgin (0-14, 0-11).

West Chicago 3, Streamwood 2: The Wildcats took the lead via 2 fourth-inning runs and held on for the Upstate Eight home win. Streamwood starting pitcher Colin Bielinski absorbed the loss, though he limited West Chicago (4-9-1, 4-6-1) to 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and 3 walks and struck out 6 in 6 innings for the Sabres (8-8, 6-5).

St. Charles East 7, Wheaton Warrenville South 0: Starting pitcher Conner Dunfee held the Tigers to a lone hit and struck out 10 in 6 innings as the Saints completed the 3-game DuKane Conference series sweep. Clay Conn tripled and drove in 2 runs and Cole Conn (RBI) tripled and doubled for St. Charles East (10-3-1, 5-1).

St. Charles North 5, Geneva 0: Zach Kempe threw 6 scoreless innings and the North Stars scored 4 seventh-inning runs to even the DuKane Conference series. Kevin White led off the seventh with a walk and scored on a two-out wild pitch to give St. Charles North (10-6, 5-1) the lead. Tough-luck losing pitcher Hunter Venditti allowed an earned run on 1 hit and 3 walks and struck out 4 in 4 innings. Blake Breon had the only hit for Geneva (8-8-1, 2-4).

Kaneland 12, Yorkville 2: Winning pitcher Angel Acevdeo struck out 14, and the Knights scored 7 sixth-inning runs to finish the Foxes in the Northern Illinois Big XII East. Acevedo walked 3 and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits in 6 innings. Dalton Askew doubled and drove in 3 and Bryce Stair and Nick Ortegel each contributed 3 hits for Kaneland (13-7, 5-1).

Harvest Christian Academy 13, Aquin 0: Jack Nohava went 4-for-4 with 3 doubles and drove in 4 runs as the Lions won their ninth straight. Grant Young, Gil Duran and Sam Bonick combined to pitch a shutout for Harvest Christian (10-2).

Elgin Academy 13, Chicago Latin 4: CJ Carani tripled and drove in a run and Reece Zonts went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI in an Independent School League win for Elgin Academy (9-4, 5-0) at Judson University.
