Softball: Jacobs, St. Charles East stage dramatic 7th-inning comebacks

Jacobs scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to hand defending Fox Valley Conference champion Huntley its third straight loss, 9-7 on Wednesday in Huntley.

Abby Ziwiski's single drove in a run to pull Jacobs (5-4, 2-1) within 7-6. A single by Katie Armstrong drove in a pair of runs for an 8-7 lead, and Sarah Lynch's sacrifice fly made it 9-7.

Delaney Garden retired Huntley (13-5, 3-2) in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win. She gave up 8 hits and just 1 walk while striking out 5 in 7 innings, and only 4 of the 7 runs she allowed were earned.

Garden, Armstrong and Ziwiski all had 3 hits. Emily Pena and Savannah Svedman both added 2 hits.

Reese Hunkins led Huntley going 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI. Kendra Mitchell and Grace Kutz also had 2 hits. Jori Heard took the loss.

Cary-Grove 10, Crystal Lake Central 5: Emma Hill scattered 12 hits in 7 innings for the win, striking out 8 and walking 2. Francesca Cruz (3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Kelly Johnson (2-for-3, 2 runs) paced the Trojans' 10-hit attack. Cary-Grove improved to 6-4, 2-1.

Crystal Lake South 8, Woodstock North 5: Alyssa Niketopoulos pitched a complete game, helping the Gators improve to 13-0.

Maddie Bush went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, Alexis Pupillo was 2-for-3 with 3 runs and Baylee Kassel added an RBI.

South Elgin 7, West Aurora 6: The Storm (11-5) picked up a key win in the Upstate Eight race, overcoming a 6-0 deficit with 2 runs in the fourth and 5 in the sixth.

Morgan Meinicke singled in the tying run in the sixth and Casey Brennan gave the Storm the lead with an RBI double.

McKenna Eichholz, Brennan and Meinicke all had 2 hits. Cara Cruthers and Meinicke both had 2 RBI.

Geneva Pollman picked up the win in relief, pitching the final 3 innings and holding the Blackhawks scoreless.

Sophia Delgado, Riley Mont and Callie Meinel all had 2 hits for West Aurora. Delgado drove in 3 runs.

St. Charles East 5, Wheaton Warrenville South 4: Maddy Stout blasted a 3-run home run with two outs in the seventh to give the Saints a dramatic victory.

Freshman Izzy Howe earned the win. She struck out 4 in her 3 innings, allowing just 1 run.

Kaneland 3, Sycamore 0: Emilee Erickson fired a 6-hit shutout, striking out 14.

Emma Bachio singled home the first run in the second inning. Rose Roach led the Knights with 2 hits.

Rosary 7, Elmwood Park 3: The Royals (4-7) scored 4 times in the first inning and led throughout. Brooke Capparelli fanned 14 hitters, allowing 2 earned runs and 6 hits.

Offensively, Chloe Saltijeral was 3-for-4 with 2 runs, Emily Hurst went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, and Angelina Tinerella was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
