Baseball: Elk Grove's Rojahn, Balzano no-hit Wheeling

Xander Rojahn and Bobby Balzano combined for a seven-inning no-hitter Tuesday as Elk Grove defeated Wheeling 3-0 in a Mid-Suburban East baseball game.

Rojahn worked the first six innings, striking out 16 and walking one, while Balzano threw a hitless seventh for the Grens (6-6, 3-1).

Nick Hofmann had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the winners.

Wheeling fell to 8-7, 3-1 with the loss.

Schaumburg 6, Conant 0: Jake Golliher threw a 1-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks over 5⅓ innings to lead the Saxons (7-5, 3-1) to an MSL West win. Tyler Robinson had 2 hits for Schaumburg. Ryan Schar and Jon Bustamante had the only hits for Conant (3-12, 0-4).

Hersey 4, Meadows 1: James Denten tossed a 4-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks and delivered 2 hits with his bat as Hersey (8-7, 2-2) won in the MSL East. Luke Hunter had a double and 2 RBI for the Huskies. Sean Nolan had 2 hits for Rolling Meadows (2-11, 1-4).

Buffalo Grove 4, Prospect 0: Danny Pocklington threw 5-hit ball over 5⅔ innings with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk as BG (9-4, 3-1) prevailed in the MSL East. Mark Antonetti (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Matt Brunelli (2 hits) led the Bison at the plate. Matt McAleer had 2 hits for Prospect (6-8-1, 1-3).

Palatine 8, Barrington 7: In the completion of a suspended MSL West game, Shailan Rajpurkar singled home courtesy runner Jacob Holmstrom with the winning run in the top of the eighth inning for Palatine (8-8-1, 2-1). Barrington fell to 13-3, 2-2 with the loss.

Maine West 8, Highland Park 1: Anthony Salemi (2 hits, 2B, RBI), David Roscoe (2 hits), Emmett Olson (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Justin Scholler (2 RBI) led the Warriors (6-7-1) to the Central Suburban League win. Olson picked up the win on the mound, going six innings and allowing 1 hit with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Joliet Catholic 9, St. Viator 3: Kevin Wilhite (2B, RBI) and Conor Warner had 2 hits each for St. Viator (9-4, 1-4) in its East Suburban Catholic loss.
