Softball: Antioch wins own tournament
Gabby Debevec and Hailey Webb each had a 2-homer day, and Antioch's softball team won its own District 117 tournament by winning all three of its games Saturday.
Antioch improved to 11-1-1 on the season.
The Sequoits started the day by beating McHenry 9-3, as Abby Pyburn went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Debevec (3 RBI), Rilee Schreiner (2 RBI) and Webb (2 RBI) all homered. Ashlyn Sundell and Faith Miller each had a pair of hits, Avery Malicki contributed a double, and Jeri Bonaguidi struck out five with no walks in 6 innings.
Antioch then defeated Zion-Benton 12-4, getting home runs from Piper Foote and Pyburn. Pyburn (double, 2 RBI) and Schreiner (2 doubles, 3 RBI) were both 3-for-3, Sundell was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Foote and Megan Lawrence (2 RBI) each had 2 hits. Schreiner earned the win, allowing no earned runs in 6 innings with 3 strikeouts and no walks.
Antioch finished up edging Richmond-Burton 6-5 in five innings, as Debevec and Webb each homered and drove in 2 runs. Bonaguidi pitched all 5 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, striking out six and walking two.
Carmel sweeps Marian Catholic: The Corsairs swept the East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader, winning 11-2 and 16-6 to improve to 5-4.
In the first game. Jordan Swiatkowsk drove in 8 runs on a pair of 3-run homers and 2-run single. She was 3-for-4, as was her sister Hailie Swiatkowsk, who had a 2-run homer and 4 runs scored.
Sydney Schuda went the distance, allowing 1 earned run in 7 innings.
In Game 2, Jordan Swiatkowski was 2-for-2 with 2 homers and 3 intentional walks. Kyla Rapplean went 4-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI. Schuda was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Marla Walinski pitched 6 innings for the win.
Grant 7, Vernon Hills 3: At Vernon Hills, Megan Mitchell and Gabby Rogalevich were both 2-for-4 to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
Calista Warmowski had a double and 2 RBI.
Vernon Hills was paced by Delaney Bowen, who went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI, and Quin Yuter, who was 2-for-3.
Palatine 12, Grant 1: At Vernon Hills, Calista Warmowski was 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs in their loss.
Gabby Rogalevich was 2-for-3, and Frances Williams went 2-for-4 with a double.
Palatine 26, Vernon Hills 9: At Vernon Hills, the Pirates scored 13 runs in the second inning.
Vernon Hills was led offensively by Delaney Bowen (2-for-2, double, 3 RBI), Rachel Wright (2-for-3, double, RBI) and Kayla Lorenz (double).
Deerfield 15, Stevenson 4: Hailey Barnes hit a solo homer and singled for the Patriots in their nonconference loss.
Maggie Trotter was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Ellie Ruchim finished 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI.
Grayslake North splits with Prairie Ridge: The Knights split the nonconference doubleheader, winning the first game 16-5 before dropping the second game 9-7.
In Game 1, Faith Standerski led the way for Grayslake North (10-7), hitting a grand slam in the seventh inning and going 4-for-5 (double, stolen bases). Maddy Wais (1-for-2, walk) hit her first varsity home run. Ashton Moore (3-for-4, walk), Scout Kram (2-for-4, RBI, walk, 2 stolen bases), Meghan Delahunty (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 walks, stolen base), Jess Pozezinski (1-for-5, RBI, stolen base), Alyssa Carr (1-for-2, RBI, stolen base), Caitlin Barenbaum (1-for-3, RBI) and Gracie Moats (1-for-2) all had hits for the Knights.
Northwestern-signee Emmie Farnam (2-for-3) hit 2 solo shots for the Wolves.
In Game 2, Moore took the tough-luck loss, going 6 innings, striking out two, scattering 9 hits, walking three, and giving up 8 runs (2 earned). Pozezinski (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 2 stolen bases), Nicole Hughes (2-for-4, double, RBI), Standerski (walk), Carr (RBI), Moore, Shannon Hill and Kram (RBI, walk) all had hits for the Knights.
Grayslake Central 10, Buffalo Grove 5: Elisa Koshy was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Avery Nims homered and knocked in 4 runs, and the Rams won in nonconference action.
Grayslake Central received 2 hits apiece from Bridget Marshall, Grace Bradley and Rachel Smigielski (2 RBI).
