Girls soccer: Hat tricks by Ludolph, Kempf pace Vernon Hills

Alex Ludolph and Julia Kempf each scored a hat trick and added an assist, and Vernon Hills' girls soccer team shut out host Grant 7-0 in a nonconference match Friday.

Brynn Ziemke also scored for Vernon Hills. Piper Bedell, Marley Reback, Ziggy Jezorski and Abby Kempf had assists as well, while Cassie Pappano and Daniella Jarrell shared the shutout.

Vernon Hills improved to 4-4-2.

"The girls created a lot of opportunities tonight and kept possession as much as we could," Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. "We took a step in the right direction this week. We are looking to build on what we started with our past few performances."

Lake Zurich wins twice: Competing in the Prospect invite, the Bears edged Rockton Hononegah 2-1 in penalty kicks and shut out U-High 2-0 at Prospect.

Rachel Krueger scored off an assist from Tess Vages in regulation time for Lake Zurich, and keeper Paige Grossenbacher made 3 saves.

Against U-High, Maddy Piggott and Abby Willock tallied in the second half for Lake Zurich (5-4-1). Jenna Krause had an assist, and Grossenbacher made 2 saves in earning the shutout.

Prairie Ridge 4, Lakes 0: The Eagles fell to 1-5-2 with the nonconference loss, despite Taylor Primack's 12 saves. Meghan Maloney made 2 saves.

"Prairie Ridge had the better of play throughout the game, though the Eagles were able to keep it to 1-0 at half," Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said. "But Prairie Ridge was able to get three more in the second half to show how good they truly are."
