Baseball: Rapanan's 7 RBI pace Warren in sweep

Brian Rapanan had 3 hits, including a triple and double, and 7 RBI, and Warren's baseball team defeated Hoffman Estates 11-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday.

The Blue Devils then completed the sweep with a 13-1 victory in five innings to improve to 15-2.

Casey Cobe also doubled for Warren in the opener, and Kyle Duenas pitched 4 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts for the win.

Cobe and Nate Rentas homered in Game 2, while Colin Schwarz tripled and doubled. Mikey Kocen and Luke Behrens also doubled, and Justin Vaughan picked up the win.

Grant 5, Hononegah 0: Carlos Martinez pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit and striking our four, as the Bulldogs won the nonconference game.

Martinez (2-0) also went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI, as Grant improved to 12-3. Val Cerna was 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a stolen bases, and Jimmy Taylor finished 2-for-3 with a double.

Gull Lake 9, Libertyville 0: In Indiana, the Wildcats lost to the Richland, Mich., opponent, as Dylan Drumke had the only hit.

Derek Calamari allowed 4 runs in 4⅓ innings, but none were earned.

Woodstock North 11, Lakes 10: Jason Volpe had 4 hits, including a pair of solo homers, and Carson Cobb also homered, but the Eagles dropped the nonconference game to fall to 3-11.

The Eagles got 2 hits each from Alex Huissen (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Cobb (double, 3 RBI) and Ethan Mackey (triple, 2 RBI). Freshman Ethan Clark had a double.

Grayslake North 8, Hersey 1: Matt Heery was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and freshman Grant Garrett doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Knights in their nonconference win.

Carmel 10, Nazareth 6: Ben Wiegman was 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI, Sean Lynch went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and the Corsairs won in East Suburban Catholic Conference action.

Dylan Paquette added a single and 2 RBI for Carmel.

Lake Forest 8, Vernon Hills 3: The Cougars got 2 hits apiece from Michael Moore and Danny Wizceb in their nonconference loss.

Barrington 14, Mundelein 7: Tyler Green homered and drove in 2 runs for the Mustangs in their nonconference loss.

Jared Dorfman had a single and 2 RBI for Mundelein (8-5).
