Baseball: Libertyville splits two in Indiana

Libertyville's baseball team traveled to Indiana for a pair of games Friday and has another scheduled for Saturday.

After beginning Friday with a 9-4 loss to Columbus North out of Indiana as part of the PBR Showcase in Westfield, the Wildcats got a big performance from Sam Paden in a 13-7 win over Portage Central out of Michigan.

Paden went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI and also pitched 5 innings for the win. Charlie Land was also 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Cole Fiorenza (triple, 2 RBI), Kevin Aquadro (2 RBI) and Karsen Cardona (2 doubles, RBI) were all 2-for-4. Derek Calamari also doubled and knocked in a run.

Against Columbus North, Libertyville got 2 hits apiece from Tanner Kelly, Dylan Drumke (double, RBI) and Calamari (double, RBI). Paden contributed a double, 2 RBI and a stolen base.

Libertyville (7-8) is scheduled to play Gull Lake at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Wauconda 17, Grayslake North 7: Camden Janik and Marcus Keller both went 3-for-3, Riley Kirk was 3-for-4, and the Bulldogs won the Northern Lake County Conference game in five innings.

Wauconda (6-7, 3-3) got triples from Keller, Brett Winkel and Anthony Bonk. Justin Surovitz earned the win, allowing no runs, 2 hits and no walks with 1 strikeout.

Grant 12, Round Lake 0: Henry Kusiak tripled and drove in 3 runs, Nathan Gladfelter had a triple and 2 RBI, and the Bulldogs won the Northern Lake County Conference game in five innings.

Grant improved to 11-3 and 6-0 in the NLCC.

Anthony Figueroa earned the win. Gladfelter also pitched a scoreless inning.

Carmel 3, St. Viator 2 (11): Sean Lynch's triple in the top of the 11th inning scored pinch runner Nolan Taylor with the game-winning run in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Lynch finished 3-for-6, and Lukas Galdoni earned the win with 3 shutout innings of relief. Carmel improved to 6-1-1 and 2-0 in the ESCC.
