Softball: Grayslake North wins wild one over Stevenson

Grayslake North's softball team pulled out a wild one in nonconference play Friday, scoring 9 runs to walk off in the seventh inning with an 18-17 win over Stevenson.

Grayslake North was the home team at Stevenson after the GNHS field was unplayable.

There were two 9-run innings in the game, one for each team. Faith Standerski (5-for-6, 3 doubles, 5 RBI) hit the walk-off single. Caitlin Barenbaum (2-for-2) hit her first varsity home run, a 2-run shot in the fifth. Grace Brown (2-for-5) hit her fifth home run of the year, a 2-run bomb in the seventh. Alyssa Carr (2-for-5, RBI), Scout Kram (double, RBI), Nina Wittig (RBI), winning pitcher Ashton Moore (2-for-5, RBI) and Nicole Hughes (1-for-1, 3 RBI, HBP, walk, 2 sacrifice flies) all had hits for Grayslake North (9-6).

Haley Barnes led the way for Stevenson homering twice (2-for-6, 6 RBI) in the first inning. Maggie O'Brien (2-for-5, double, 2 RBI) also homered. Anna Fossier (3-for-5), Elle Ruchim (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Emily Freedman (2-for-4), Maggie Trotter (RBI), Lexi Gitler, Lizzie Toscano (RBI) and Riley Housinger (double) also had hits for the Patriots.

Grant 21, Prairie Ridge 14: The Bulldogs pounded out 24 hits in their nonconference win, getting a pair of homers each from Megan Mitchell and Bella Conticello and one from Kaylin Berwanger.

Liz Schram and Becca Fabry both doubled twice for Grant (8-5-1), which also got doubles from Calista Warmowski, Sarah Gallivan and Conticello. Conticello, Mitchell, Frances Williams, Schram, Gallivan and Fabry each had 3 hits. Conticello, Schram and Berwanger each had 4 RBI. Berwanger and Warmowski had 2-hit games. Gallivan added 2 stolen bases.

Mundelein 10, Wauconda 6: Kellie Shanahan (2 RBI) and Molly Podraza (double, 2 RBI) were both 2-for-3 for the host Mustangs in the nonconference game.

Kendall Klatt homered, scored three times and drove in 2 runs for Mundelein, and Kira Buckner contributed a double.

Wauconda's Alexis De La Roca was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Taylor Koehler went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, and Kaityn Jerard had a double as well.

Round Lake 18, Lake Forest 1: The Panthers got 3-for-4 efforts from Lilly Larson (2 RBI), Lina Navarrete (triple, 2 RBI) and Kaitlyn DeNapoli (3 RBI) and won the nonconference game in four innings.

Carla Medina (2-for-4, RBI), Emily Etherington (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Michele Lauritzen (double, 3 RBI) also contributed to Round Lake's attack.

Glenbrook North 6, Vernon Hills 4: Rachel Wright went 3-for-3 with a triple, 2 runs scored and an RBI, as the Cougars lost the Central Suburban League game.

Vernon Hills also 2 hits apiece from Quin Yuter and Brook Pieper. Delaney Bowen had a double.
