Baseball: Prospect rolls over Hoffman Estates

Prospect rolled up a 10-run second inning en route to a huge 12-0 Mid-Suburban League baseball victory over Hoffman Estates Friday.

Jacob Kiel led the way for Prospect (5-7-1, 1-2) with 2 hits, including a double. Ethan Burgh added a triple.

Winning pitcher Jimmy Martin had 6 strikeouts over five innings.

Kyle Krogstad had a double for Hoffman Estates (1-11-1, 0-3).

Fremd 12, Hersey 9: Brent Swenson and Connor Giusti each smacked home runs to lead Fremd to the MSL win. Swenson and Giusti each had 2 hits for the game. Giusti drove in a total of 5 runs and Swenson drove in 3 runs. Will Josten and Nick Rattin each added 2 hits including a double each as well for Fremd, which improved to 6-6 overall and .3-0 in the MSL. Winning pitcher Will Cai had 3 strikeouts over four innings pitched. For Hersey (7-6, 1-2), Dan Kubsik had 4 hits, including a home run, and drove in 2 runs. Daniel Clawson added 2 hits and an RBI and AJ Ceffalio had a double and an RBI.

Wheeling 9, Schaumburg 7: Eric Konrath drove in 3 runs while teammates Andy Shover (2B) and Michael Best each drove in 2 runs to lead Wheeling, which took advantage of 9 walks, to the MSL win. Spencer Nowak was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats (6-5, 3-0). For Schaumburg (6-4, 2-1), Joe Unger had another big day with 2 home runs and 5 RBI and Albert Kiszka added 2 hits.

Palatine 13, Rolling Meadows 1: Jake Andersen had 2 doubles and 2 RBI to lead Palatine to the MSL win, The Pirates (6-7-2, 1-1-1) banged out 14 hits as Jack Betz (2B, RBI), Shailan Rajpurkar (2B, 2 RBI) and Ryan Dysangco (RBI) added 2 hits apiece as well. Josh Stitt and Tyler Pecson each had a double and an RBI for the Pirates. Winning pitcher Eric Pecson had 4 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits in 4⅓ innings. Javonte Jones-Warrener had 2 hits for Meadows (2-8, 1-3).

Barrington 13, Buffalo Grove 0: Barrington earned an MSL win by putting up 10 hits overall and scoring 8 runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Will Koehler (RBI) had 3 hits and John Seagrist had 2 hits with a double and drove in 3 runs for the Broncos (12-2-1, 2-0-1). Jon Gardner also drove in 2 runs. Winning pitcher Nate Holler had 8 strikeouts and allowed just 3 hits over five innings. Connor Adams, Sean Jacobs and Nate Cole had hits for Buffalo Grove (7-4, 2-1).

Elk Grove 7, Conant 1: Elk Grove racked up 13 hits and got 2 hits apiece from Nick Hofmann (2B, RBI), Zach Schwartz, Matt Crimmins, Shane Crimmins (2B, RBI), Mark Matos (RBI) and Joey Gaskill (2 BRI). Winning pitcher Ryne Singsank allowed just 1 hit over 6⅔ innings and had 9 strikeouts for Elk Grove (5-5, 2-1). Conant, which fell to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the MSL, got its only hit from Teague Conrad.

Carmel 3, St. Viator 2: In the completion of an East Suburban Catholic game suspended by darkness earlier in the week, Sean Lynch's 11th-inning triple scored Nolan Taylor to win it for Carmel. Viator fell to 8-4 overall and 0-2 in the ESCC with the loss.
