Girls soccer: Martini's 5 goals lift St. Edward over Rosary

Jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, things looked good for St. Edward (1-5, 1-0) in a 6-4 win over Rosary on Tuesday.

But the Royals came roaring back to take a 3-2 lead into half. Two quick goals by Rachel Martini, who scored 5 of St. Edward's 6 goals, put the Wave up 4-3, only to see Rosary tie it at again at four. Two more goals by Martini sealed the victory, and the young Wave defense finished the game strong.

Dundee-Crown 6, Rockford East 0: A hat trick and an assist from Katelyn Skibinski and a solid defensive effort led Dundee-Crown (3-4, 0-2) to victory. Kalyssa Gotter went the full 80 minutes in goal, shutting out Rockford East with 2 saves.

Huntley 3, Guilford 0: After a scoreless first half, Huntley (4-3-2, 1-1) found the back of the net 3 times in the second half to claim victory. Avery Fitzgerald scored 2 of the 3 goals. Alexis Kozak and Jenna Franklin guarded the goal, but neither had a save as Guilford did not get a shot on goal.

Elgin 3, Elk Grove 2: The Maroons (5-6, 0-2) took a 1-0 lead at the half and never looked back in a win at the PepsiCo showdown tournament Tuesday night. Haley Munoz had a goal and an assist to lead the offense for Elgin, and Joana Mercado picked up 5 saves in goal.

St. Ignatius 2, St. Charles East 1: The Saints (9-3) had a 1-1 tie after the first half of play, but a late score by St. Igantius went unanswered in the second. Elle McCaslin scored the St. Charles East goal, assisted by Jessica Stephen.
