Baseball: Snep's homers lift Lake Zurich in extras
Tyler Snep hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning, giving Lake Zurich a 9-8 win over host Lake Forest in North Suburban Conference baseball action Tuesday.
Snep's 2-run homer in the seventh tied the score ad 8-8 and forced extra innings. Snep finished 3-for-5 and also threw out a runner from behind the plate.
Jack Pfeifer also homered for Lake Zurich, finishing 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Noah DeLuga was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a stolen base. Jake Green allowed 1 earned run and struck out seven in 4 innings, while Jack Moses pitched 2 innings to earn the win.
Wauconda 17, Grayslake North 0: Marcus Keller threw a five-inning complete game in the Northern Lake County Conference game, striking out six, while allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.
Wauconda (4-7) was led offensively by Anthony Bonk, who went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Camden Janik, who was 2-for-2 with a triple and 5 RBI. Tyler Heinz finished 2-for-4 with a triple and 3 RBI.
Mundelein 16, Waukegan 6: Justin Binz was 2-for-2 with a homer, double and 5 RBI, as the host Mustangs won big in North Suburban Conference action.
Austin Greco went 2-for-2 with 3 runs scored, 2 walks and an RBI, and Mason Schultz was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Mundelein.
Stevenson 15, Zion-Benton 1: Brandon Ward homered and drove in 2 runs, and Frank Carris threw a five-inning complete game, striking out eight and not allowing an earned run in the North Suburban Conference game.
Stevenson's other offensive contributors included Chris Farina (2-for-3, 2 runs), Jake Surane (2-for-2, double, RBI), AJ Weine (double) and Bejamin Ries (double).
Grant 13, Round Lake 2: Valentin Cerna homered and scored 3 runs, as the Bulldogs captured the North Suburban Conference win.
Grant (9-3, 4-0) got 3-for-3 performances from Bryce Mandala (3 doubles, 2 RBI) and Anthony Figueroa (RBI). Austin Vass (2-0) picked up the win.
Grayslake Central 8, Lakes 5: Nic Presutti was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Coby Moe was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the host Rams in the Northern Lake County Conference game.
Jason Volpe homered, doubled and knocked in 2 runs for Lakes. Chance Andell was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for the Eagles. Volpe and Logan Queen were both 2-for-4.
Evanston 8, Vernon Hills 6: The Wildkits broke a 4-4 tie by scoring 4 runs in the top of the fifth in the Central Suburban League game.
Vernon Hills dropped to 7-4 and 0-1 in the CSL.
