Baseball: Fremd beats Conant on Cermak's walk-off grand slam
Tom Cermak's walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Fremd's baseball team to an 8-7 win over Conant Monday in a Mid-Suburban West game.
Also contributing to the offense for the Vikings (4-6) were Brent Swenson (3 hits, RBI), Connor Giusti (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Nick Rattin (3B, RBI).
Conant (2-8) was led by Christian Seegers, who had 2 hits with a home run and 3 RBI, Ryan Schar with a triple and a double, and Ryan Taylor with 2 hits, a double and an RBI). Xander Leary (RBI), Joe Bustamante (2B), Teague Conrad (2B) and Keegan O'Connor (2B) also contributed for the Cougars.
Buffalo Grove 15, Meadows 7: Riley Rundquist (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Matt Brunelli (2 hits, 2 doubles, RBI), Alex Paul (3B, 3 RBI), Sean Jacobs (2 RBI) and Carter Giedhill (2B) led the Bison (6-3) to the MSL East win. Sean Nolan (4 hits, 2 doubles, RBI), Joe Marcucci (2 hits, HR, RBI) and Jermaine Salcedo (2B) led Meadows.
Wheeling 4, Prospect 3: Michael Best had 3 hits including a double, Spencer Nowak 2 hits with a double and Andy Shover 2 hits as Wheeling scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to win the MSL East game. Ed Brancato and Matt McAleer had 2 hits each for Prospect (4-6-1). Joe Jordan picked up the win for the Wildcats (6-5).
Barrington 20, Palatine 7: The Broncos scored 18 runs in the second inning to cruise to the MSL West win. AJ Christoffer had a grand slam, Clark Elliott a 3-run homer and Nate Gazda 4 RBI for Barrington (12-2). Also contributing were Mark Raynor (2 RBI), Hayden Kraus (2B, 2 RBI), John Seagrist (2B) and Rayth Petersen (2B). R.J. Nowicki was the winning pitcher. Joey Gass (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Shailan Rajpurkar (2 hits, 2 RBI), Jake Andersen (2B, 2 RBI), Eric Pecson (2B, 2 RBI) and Josh Stitt (2B0 led Palatine (5-7-1).
Schaumburg 6, Hoffman Estates 1: Jake Golliher went five innings and allowed just 3 hits with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk to lead Schaumburg (5-3) to the MSL West win. Yuki Sarto (2 hits, RBI), Jake Bahn (2 hits, RBI), Armen Torosian (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Albert Kiszka (2B) led the Saxons at the plate. Jordan Acosta (RBI) and Matt Grossi each had doubles for Hoffman.
Leyden 9, Addison Trail 7: Cole Wilson had a home run, 2 doubles and 6 RBI to lead the Eagles (6-3) to a West Suburban Gold win.
