Softball: Lawrence's walk-off hit wins it for Antioch
Megan Lawrence's bases-loaded single into left-center field with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Antioch's softball team a 5-4, walk-off win over Johnsburg in nonconference action Friday.
Sequoits senior Piper Foote hit a 2-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the sixth to tie the score at 3-3. Johnsburg regained the lead in the seventh before Antioch (3-0-1) plated two runs in its half of the inning. Gabby Debevec (2-for-3) plated the tying run when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jeri Bonaguidi went the distance in the circle for the Sequoits, allowing 5 hits and striking out seven.
Grayslake North 16, Wauconda 0: Winning pitcher Evan Garrett had a no-hitter through 3⅔ innings in the Northern Lake County Conference game, settling for a 2-hit shutout with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 innings
Grace Brown ended the game with a walk-off grand slam. She finished the day 4-for-4 with 5 RBI. Freshman Nicole Hughes continued her hot streak, going 2-for-2 with a home run, double, sacrifice fly and 4 RBI. Faith Standerski (2-for-3, 2 RBI, walk) hit her third home run of the season. Alyssa Carr (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Jess Pozezinski (1-for-3, double), Meghan Delahunty (1-for-3, RBI) and Ashton Moore (1-for-1) all had hits for the Knights (6-5, 1-1).
Wauconda freshman Taylor Koehler broke up the no-hitter with a single just past the outstretched glove of shortstop Standerski. Freshman Zehra Hussain added a single, while sophomore Julia Fohlmeister and freshman Calli Janik both walked.
Grayslake Central 13, Dundee-Crown 3: Grace Bradley had 2 home runs and 6 RBI, finishing 3-for-3, as the visiting Rams won again in nonconference play.
Avery Nims (double) was also 3-for-3 for Grayslake Central (7-2) and pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing 2 earned runs. The Rams got a pair of hits each from Bridget Marshall (double, 2 RBI), Elisa Koshy (2 RBI), Ashlynn Coleman (2 RBI) and Madeline Peterson (double).
Richmond-Burton 9, Lakes 7: Camryn Jones went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, and Grace Goodrich homered for the Eagles in their nonconference loss.
Grant 14, Round Lake 1: On Thursday, winning pitcher Frances Williams hit a grand slam, and Becca Fabry and Liz Schram also homered for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-0 in the Northern Lake County Conference.
