Baseball: Strong pitching carries Barrington, Fremd to wins

RJ Nowicki tossed a 2-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks Tuesday as Barrington's baseball team defeated Highland Park 11-0 in a five-inning nonconference game.

A.J. Christoffer (2 hits), Rayth Petersen (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), John Seagrist (2B, 2 RBI), Clark Elliott (2B) and Hayden Kraus (2B) led the Broncos (8-2) at the plate.

Fremd 27, Schaumburg Christian 0: Peter Hiller threw a five-inning no-hitter, his first high school no-hitter, with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Vikings rolled to an easy nonconference win. Leading Fremd (2-5) at the plate were Will Josten (3 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Nick Rattin (2 hits, 3B, RBI), James Marchi (2 hits, RBI), Charlie Towns (2 hits, 2B, 4 RBI), Austin Higgins (2 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), Tom Cermak (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Connor Giusti (2 RBI), Matt Wingen (2 hits), Alex Bischoff (2B, 2 RBI) and Victor Fujiu (2B).

McHenry 12, Palatine 1: Eric Pecson had a double for Palatine (4-5) in its nonconference loss.

Hersey 15, Lake Park 4: Hunter Luke had 4 hits and 2 RBI to lead the Huskies (6-1) to a nonconference win. Also contributing to the offense were AJ Ceffalio (3 hits), Daniel Clawson (3 hits, 2 doubles, 3 RBI), Jake Irwin (2B, 2 RBI) and Dan Kubsik (2 RBI). Irwin got the win on the mound. He struck out six and walked one.

Prospect 4, Lakes 2: Prospect scored all four of its runs in the first inning to get the nonconference win. The Knights (3-4) survived 7 errors as winning pitcher Mitchell Gates finished with 3 strikeouts over two innings. Will Pfiefer drove in a run for Prospect.

Wheaton North 11, Conant 4: Wheaton North scored 7 runs in the sixth inning to pull out the win. Ryan Schar had 1 hit and drove in a run for Conant. Daniel LaRosa also had an RBI for the Cougars (0-7). Pitcher Teague Conrad had 5 strikeouts in the loss.

Elk Grove 14, York 7: Elk Grove put up big numbers all the way around. The Grens (2-3) rolled up 12 hits and winning pitcher Xander Rojahn had 10 strikeouts over four innings. He also did some damage at the plate with 2 hits. Meanwhile, Elk Grove, which put the game away with a 5-run sixth inning, also benefited from 10 York errors. Zach Schwartz had a huge day at the plate for Elk Grove, racking up 4 hits, including 3 triples and a double. Shane Crimmins had 2 hits and 3 RBI for Elk Grove and Ryne Singsank added 2 hits as well.

Wheaton Warrenville South 9, Schaumburg 2: Schaumburg was outhit by Wheaton-Warrenville South 14-6. Joe Unger had 2 hits for the Saxons (4-2) while Albert Kiszka added a home run.

Glenbrook North 8, St. Viator 2: St. Viator dropped its first game of the season, getting outhit, 9-6. Casey Kmet had a home run for St. Viator and Joe Brunetti also had a hit and drove in a run. Jack Mahoney added a double for the Lions (6-1).

Leyden 4, Morton 3: Jose Solis had 2 hits and Danny Determann added a double as Leyden slipped by Morton. The Eagles (4-2) were led on the mound by Sebastian Rosario, who got the win with 3 strikeouts over two innings.

Notre Dame 3, Maine South 2: Maine South dropped to 7-3 on the season despite 9 strikeouts by pitcher Ysen Useni. Bobby Rinaldi had a hit and drove in a run for the Hawks while Ethan Quinn also drove in a run.

Buffalo Grove 4, Evanston 3: Alex Paul, Riley Rundquist and Mark Antonetti drove in runs for the Bison (4-2) in a nonconference win. Danny Pocklington picked up the win on the mound and Nate Cole earned the save.
