Baseball: Libertyville's Calamari no-hits Stevenson

Libertyville's baseball team opened defense of its North Suburban Conference championship in style Monday, as Derek Calamari threw a no-hitter in a 3-1 win over visiting Stevenson.

Calamari, a senior right-hander, struck out nine and walked two. The only run he allowed was unearned.

Libertyville managed only 3 hits off Stevenson starter Jacob Rosenkranz, who also went the distance. Garrison Bennett and Brendan King each had a single and an RBI for the Wildcats, and Dylan Drumke doubled.

Lake Zurich 2, Zion-Benton 1: Anthony Mangano's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh have the Bears a walk-off win in the North Suburban opener.

Mangano finished 2-for-4 and also stole a base. The Bears' other offensive contributors included Michael Chialdikas (1-for-2, double, walk, RBI, stolen base) and Jack Moses (1-for-2, 2 walks, run). Jake Schwartz allowed 1 earned run in 6 innings but got a no-decision. Jake Green pitched a scoreless seventh and earned the win.

Mundelein 5, Lake Forest 3: The Mustangs scored twice in the top of the seventh to snap a 3-3 tie in the North Suburban opener.

Andrew Schroeder led the way offensively for Mundelein (5-3), going 3-for-4 with a double. TJ Yakiminsky had a single and 2 RBI, and pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Mustangs starter Jonathan Hanscom pitched 5⅓ innings, allowing 1 earned run, striking out nine and walked four. Rahul Champaneri got the win.

Warren 18, Waukegan 0: Casey Cobe and Mikey Kocen both homered and doubled for the Blue Devils in the North Suburban opener.

Gabe Schmitt, Dru Jasnoch and Cole Thompson also had doubles for Warren (7-2). Ryan Scanlon (2-0) earned the win.

Grayslake Central 10, Marian Central 4: Coby Moe was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and a career-high 5 RBI for the host Rams in the nonconference game.

Marcus Maristella went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base for Grayslake Central (4-1).

Coby Moe drove in a career high 5 runs and belted 4 hits as he had 2 doubles and 2 singles to lead the 11 hit attack. Marcus Maristela added 2 hits, drove in 2 runs and scored 2 runs as GC improved their record to 4-1 on the season. Eric Sturm, Tyler Marson, Nate Twardock and Sean Gniadek shared mound duties for the Rams and combined on a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts.
