Softball: Grayslake North gets 9 extra-base hits in win

Grace Brown homered, three players had 2 doubles apiece, and Grayslake North's softball team rolled past Marshfield (Wis.) 11-2 in Florida on Tuesday.

Faith Standerski, Jess Pozezinski, and Nicole Hughes each doubled twice, and Shannon Hill and Gianna Certa had doubles as well. Brown's homer was her second of the year. Alyssa Carr and Maddy Wais singled for Grayslake North (3-3).

Nine of the Knights' 11 hits went for extra bases. Standerski (3), Brown (2), Pozezinski (2), Carr, Hill and Certa all collected RBI. Certa earned the win (5 innings, 2 earned runs, 6 strikeouts, 7 hits, 2 walks). Emily Mack threw 2 scoreless innings of relief (3 strikeouts, 2 hits, 0 walks).

Vernon Hills loses twice: In Alabama, the Cougars dropped decisions of 10-5 to Corner and 10-3 to Oak Mountain.

Against Corner, Delaney Bowen was 1-for-2 with a run scored and RBI, while Jordyn Smith was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Against Oak Mountain, Elisa Handler went 1-for-3 with a triple and RBI, and Bowen was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Carmel splits: In Alabama, the Corsairs 6-2 to Oak Mountain, despite Sydney Schuda's first homer of the season.

Carmel then beat Ohatchee 11-0 behind the pitching of Marla Walinski.

Dublin Jerome (Ohio) 7, Grayslake Central 6: In Florida, Avery Nims homered and doubled, and Elisa Koshy was 3-for-4 with a double in the Rams' loss.

Grayslake Central also got multiple hits from Rachel Smigielski (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Kennedy Stoffel (2-for-4, 2 RBI). Nims (2-for-3) drove in a pair of runs. Madeline Peterson added a double.
