Baseball: Hersey opens with two wins
AJ Ceffallo, Daniel Clawson and Dan Kubsik each had 3 hits Saturday in leading Hersey's baseball team to a 12-2 nonconference win over West Chicago in the Huskies' season opener.
Clawson then came back with another 3-hit effort in as the Huskies (2-0) completed a sweep of the day with a 10-6 win over Highland Park.
In the win over West Chicago, Clawson (2 RBI), Ceffallo (4 RBI) and Luke Picchiotti each had doubles for Hersey, which had 15 hits in the five-inning contest.
Hunter Luke picked up the win on the mound, going four innings and allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Against Highland Park, Clawson had a home run, a double and 3 RBI while James Denton added a 3-run homer for the Huskies.
Jake Irwin went four innings on the mound to earn the win. He allowed 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk.
Palatine 16, Highland Park 7: Tyler Pecson went 2-for-2 with a grand slam home run to lead the Pirates (3-2) to a nonconference win. Josh Stitt (2B, 2 RBI) and Ryan Dysangco (2 hits, 3 RBI) also had big days at the plate. Pecson picked up the pitching win in relief.
Geneva 14, Prospect 5: Ethan Burgh (2 hits, 2B), Tyler Ciulla (2 hits, 2B), Jacob Kiel (2B) and Tyler Priessing (2B) led the Knights (0-2) in the nonconference loss.
Moline 6, Barrington 3: A.J. Christoffer had 2 hits while Rayth Petersen and Will Koehler (RBI) added doubles for Barrington (2-2) in a nonconference defeat.
