Cutting-edge scoreboard, audio system coming to United Center

The United Center Wednesday announced plans for a new scoreboard and audio system that will debut with the 2019-20 NHL and NBA seasons, and afford fans in every seat better visibility.

The new video display will be nearly four times the size of the current board. According to a spokesman, it will cover 8,600 square feet, making it the largest center-hung screen display with the highest resolution technology among arenas that host both NBA and NHL teams.

A couple of other unique features are six panels that can slide out at the bottom of the scoreboard and a continuous inner-ring display, helpful for fans seated close to the court or ice.

"This new scoreboard allows us the opportunity to take the in-game experience to the next level," Sergio Lozano, senior director of scoreboard operations, said in a statement. "Fans will be blown away by the remarkable scale and unique capabilities leading to a truly captivating in-game experience."

The United Center opened in 1994 and hosts more than 200 events per year. Some recent improvements include new seats and lighting.

The United Center announced plans to unveil a new scoreboard, four times larger than the current video screens, to debut for the 2019-20 Blackhawks and Bulls seasons.
