St. Charles North's 7-run sixth sinks Fremd

Fremd softball coach Josh Teschner was looking forward to seeing how his least-experienced team in three seasons would fare on Thursday against St. Charles North, a four-time sectional championship program since 2011.

Teschner's youngest players didn't disappoint at the plate as freshmen Kalyn McCarthy (1-for-2, RBI, 3 runs, 3 stolen bases) and Elaina Kraus each belted home runs in their debuts while classmate Eva Jordan went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Vikings' 14-7 loss to the visiting North Stars at Heritage Park in Wheeling.

Vikings senior pitcher Hailey Hazlett and junior McKenna Schneider (2-for-4, RBI) each tripled in the season opener.

Sophomore Cali DiVito and junior Kelsey Brauer also had hits for Fremd.

The Vikes trailed 5-0 but rallied to within 7-6 before St. Charles North scored 7 runs in the top of the sixth.
