Barrington's Beaubien will take his golf talents to Illinois Wesleyan

He's leaving one of the top high school golf programs in the state and will be joining one of the best in college.

Barrington senior Bobby Beaubien has committed to play golf at Illinois Wesleyan, the No. 4 ranked team in Division III.

Beaubien, who owns a 3.67 GPA, had seven Top 10 finishes during the 2018 season. He was the captain for the Broncos, who were seventh in the state tourney last fall.

Following a strong summer of golf, he was offered a guaranteed spot on the Titans' golf team and officially signed in December.

Beaubien helped lead Barrington to a 12-0 Mid-Suburban League record and four championships in 18-hole invites.

"Bobby's golf game has continued to improve throughout his years at Barrington High School," said Barrington coach Mike Kallenbach, who retired from coaching after last season. "He is still in the process of realizing his full potential. Bobby also realizes hard work leads to success. I'm looking forward to following Bobby's golf career as well as academics as he pursues this next chapter in his life. He will make an excellent addition to Illinois Wesleyan University."

Assistant Barrington coach Tim Rife stressed Beaubien's quality work ethic.

"So much of the game is putting in the time and effort to improve," Rife said. "Bobby wants to be out there working every day to get better - coming early, staying late and it showed in his results. He will not fall short at the next level due to a lack of effort. This step is just the beginning for him."

Beaubien is a National Honor Society student at BHS taking a rigorous course load of AP and honors classes. He has volunteered for JourneyCare since middle school where he helped found the JourneyCare Juniors program with his older sister to honor their grandfather after his unexpected death in 2011.

In high school, he has been an active member of the JourneyCare Youth Advisory Board.

He also volunteers as a junior coach with the local First Tee of Greater Chicago chapter and started the Barrington First Tee Golf Marathon to raise funds this past summer to implement First Tee programming in District 220 elementary schools. He plans to study business.
