Report: White Sox sign veteran starter Ervin Santana
GLENDALE, Ariz. - The White Sox's starting rotation was pretty much set heading into training camp.
Reynaldo Lopez, Carlos Rodon, newcomer Ivan Nova and Lucas Giolito occupy the first four spots, the order has not yet been set, and Dylan Covey and Manny Banuelos came in as the most likely candidates for the No. 5 starter job.
You can now add Ervin Santana to the mix.
According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, Santana is joining the Sox on a minor-league contract, pending a physical. The 36-year-old righty will make $4.3 million if he breaks camp on the 25-man roster.
A 14-year veteran, Santana is a career 149-125 with a 4.06 ERA. He's pitched for the Angels, Royals, Braves and Twins.
Before the 2015 season, Santana signed a four-year, $55 million contract with Minnesota. He was 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA in 2017, finishing seventh in Cy Young Award voting.
Last year, Santana was limited to 5 starts by an injury to his right middle finger. He was 0-1 with an 8.03 ERA.

The White Sox agreed to terms with 27 players Friday, including Reynaldo Lopez and Yoan Moncada. All players on the 40-man roster are now under contract.
