Carmel, Grayslake Central win big
Katie Lach poured in 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and Carmel Catholic's girls basketball team routed No. 11 Ridgewood 74-27 in the Class 3A Grayslake Central regional semifinals on Tuesday night.
No. 5 Carmel (14-17) will play No. 3 Grayslake Central (23-7) in Thursday's 7 p.m. final.
Brigit Barr and Grace Sullivan added 16 and 14 points, respectively, for the Corsairs. Caitlin Teehan had 8 points.
Grayslake Central 61, North Chicago 15: At Grayslake Central, the Rams cruised in their Class 3A regional seminal.
Rosie Drevline and MK Drevline scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for No. 3 Grayslake Central (23-7), which will play No. 5 Carmel for the regional championship at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Resurrection 49, Antioch 41: At Resurrection, the host school and No. 6 seed ended the Sequoits' season.
No. 12 Antioch finished 5-23.
Zion-Benton 42, Vernon Hills 31: At Vernon Hills, the sixth-seeded Zee-Bees advance to the Class 4A regional final against No. 3 Libertyville.
No. 11 Vernon Hills (15-13) was led by Piper Bedell's 10 points. Kayla Caudle - who had a career-high 27 points and 19 rebounds in the Cougars' play-in win over Waukegan on Monday - finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds in the final game of her four-year varsity career.
Libertyville 69, Highland Park 25: At Vernon Hills, the third-seeded Wildcats advanced to the Class 4A regional final, as Margaret Buchert scored a game-high 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Lydia Crow added 12 points on four 3-pointers and Maddie Spaulding scored 12 points as well for Libertyville (22-7), which advances to Thursday's 7 p.m. final. Lauren Huber contributed 9 points.
Addie Budnik had 10 points for No. 14 Highland Park.
Stevenson 55, Round Lake 47: At Hersey, Simone Sawyer scored 19 points, Avery King added 15, and the fifth-seeded Patriots won the Class 4A regional semifinal.
Ava Bardic added 10 points for Stevenson (22-9), which will play No. 4 Hersey (19-9) in Thursday's 7 p.m. final.
No. 12 Round Lake (21-10) received 11 points from Taylor Major, 10 from Diane Flade and 9 from Giselle Raygoza.
Hersey 56, Grayslake North 41: At Hersey, MaryKate Fahey scored 17 points to lead the fourth-seeded Huskies in the Class 4A regional semifinal.
Hersey (19-9) advances to Thursday's 7 p.m. regional final.
No. 19 Grayslake North (10-22) was led by Savannah Guenther's 20 points. Guenther, a senior and four-year varsity player, earlier in the day, signed with Northwest Missouri State University.
Prospect 53, Wauconda 44: At Mundelein, trailing by 10 points at halftime, the eighth-seeded Knights rallied to knock off the ninth-seeded Bulldogs in their Class 4A regional semifinal.
Jessica Kowalczyk scored a game-high 20 points, sinking 8 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter, to lead Prospect (15-9), which will play top-seeded Fremd (25-4) in Thursday's final at 7 p.m. Ashley Adams added 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Wauconda (20-6) led 28-18 at halftime, but Prospect opened the third quarter with a 13-0 run and took a 35-31 advantage into the fourth. Eliot Dojutrek scored 5 of her 6 points, including a 3-pointer, in the fourth for the Knights. Kowalczyk had a big third quarter, as well, knocking down two 3-pointers and scoring 8 points.
Wauconda's Allie Tylka had a triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 steals in the final game of her four-year varsity career. Kiley Szmajda had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Fremd 60, Mundelein 35: At Mundelein, trailing 13-11 after one quarter in the Class 4A regional semifinal, the top-seeded Vikings outscored the 20th-seeded Mustangs 25-6 in the second quarter en route to the win.
Ruthie Montella and Emily Klaczek each scored 12 points for Fremd (25-4), which advances to Thursday's 7 p.m. final. Freshman post Brianna Wooldridge added 8 points and 8 rebounds. The Vikings had 12 players score.
Kendall Klatt had 12 points and 7 rebounds for Mundelein (10-21). Morgan Frank added 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
