Maine West, Elk Grove fare well at Maine East regional

Maine West and Elk Grove each advanced five wrestlers out of the Class 3A Maine East regional on Saturday, with the Warriors notching two championships and the Grenadiers one.

Champions for Maine West, who advance to next weekend's Conant sectional, were senior Zak Chrisovitsiotis (now 23-15 at 120 pounds) and sophomore Isco Isuf (25-9 at 132).

Elk Grove's champion was sophomore Joey Gaskill, who is now 28-7 at 152 pounds.

Also advancing for Maine West were senior Steve Chrisovitsiotis (2nd at 138, 18-16), junior Rahil Sadrudin (3rd at 160, 12-15) and senior Jake Bellizzi (2nd at 220, 24-5).

Elk Grove's other sectional qualifiers included senior Griffin McEnroe (3rd at 113, 26-5), senior Matt McEnroe (2nd at 126, 28-9), senior Joe Szplit (3rd at 145, 21-10) and freshman Brady Tosterud (3rd at 182, 17-17).

At Lane: At the Class 3A Chicago Lane regional, Leyden advanced seven individuals to the Conant sectional. A junior transfer from Oak Park-River Forest, Ronnie Massari finished second at 152 pounds. Senior Ryan Jaffray (220 pounds) and senior Fernando Corona (285 pounds) each lost narrow decisions against wrestlers from Oak Park-River Forest. Daniel Uribe (132 pounds), Jimmy Lonigro (145 pounds), Ben Uribe (160 pounds) and Alejandro Quinonez (170 pounds) advanced by finishing third.
