Larkin's Dixon earns MVP accolades
Larkin's Aalihay Dixon is this week's Daily Herald MVP for girls basketball.
Aaliyah Dixon, Larkin: This 5-foot-9 junior led the Royals to the championship of the Elgin City tournament. Dixon averaged 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals a game in the tournament. Larkin also played Glenbard East in an Upstate Eight game last week and Dixon scored a season-high 30 points.
Lily Greifenstein, Rolling Meadows: The 5-foot-7 senior guard connected on 16-of-17 at the free throw line en route to a career-high 30 points as the Mustangs pulled out a key 73-64 win over defending division champion Hersey in the Mid-Suburban East.
Taris Thornton, Montini: A 6-foot sophomore guard, Thornton contributed 9 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots toward a victory against Hinsdale South. She added 20 points, 19 rebounds and 5 blocks in a win against Butler College Prep of Chicago for the state-ranked Broncos.
Allie Tylka, Wauconda: The 6-foot forward signed with Florida Atlantic University in November and has shown all season why she earned a Division-I scholarship. Her 25 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists helped the Bulldogs beat Grant 69-53 to avenge an earlier-season loss and improve to 17-3. The four-year varsity starter is averaging 20.7 points per game.
