Palatine wins for third time in four games

Palatine's girls basketball team earned its third win in four games by defeating visiting Grayslake Central 39-35 in Saturday's nonconference game.

The Pirates (4-11) were led by freshman Madi Stark (11 points), sophomore Kayla Miotk (9), junior Olivia Radtke (8) and senior Amanda Stanczuk (6). Senior Amy Vitulli tossed in a 3-pointer for coach Mark Johnson's team, which hosts Wheeling on Tuesday night.

St. Ignatius 57, Barrington 23: Junior forward Taylor Thompson led the Fillies (5-13) with 10 points at the Chicagoland Showcase Invitational game at Benet Academy in Lisle.

Senior standout guard Molly Gannon led the Wolfpack (14-4) with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

"St. Ignatius is a very seasoned team with a lot of weapons in addition to Gannon," said Fillies coach Babbi Barreiro. "We gave up a few early in transition which hurt us as well but against a good team like this you have to take better care of the ball and get your shots to drop."

Barrington was without starters Shanna Turczynski and Michaela Goetze, who were on family trips.

"We really struggled today getting the shots to fall," Barreiro added. "I thought at times we were able to break down their zone and get some good looks but we simply struggled to get the shots to fall."

Morton 57, Leyden 54: Junior guard Jamyah Tate led the Eagles with 20 points while senior center Gaby Hurtado added 14 points in the West Subrban Gold.

Eagles coach Stephanie Kuzmanic credited Janelle Caraballo with 'lockdown defense' off the bench.
