Maine West rolls in CSL North opener

Maine West's girls basketball team won for the 53rd time in its last 56 games when it opened play in the Central Suburban North with a 72-33 triumph at Highland Park Tuesday night.

The Warriors (10-0, 1-0) were led by Rachel Kent (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals), Dylan Van Fleet (11 points, 4 steals), Angela Dugalic (16 points, 3 steals) and Jocelyn Jacob (12 points, 2 steals) as they collected 19 steals in the triumph.

Leyden 64, Morton 47: Visiting Leyden (4-2, 1-2) evened it record in the West Suburban Gold as four different Eagles scored in double figures. "We had outstanding communication and teamwork," said Leyden coach Stephanie Kuzmanic. "And we shared the ball selflessly."

St. Charles North 40, Palatine 32: Sophomore Kayla Miotk led visiting Palatine (1-6) with 11 points in the nonconference game while seniors Amy Vitulli (two 3-pointers) and Amanda Stanczuk each chipped in 6 points.
