Girls volleyball: Hersey, Fremd remain undefeated in MSL

Fremd's girls volleyball team remained unbeaten in the Mid-Suburban West with a 25-17, 25-19 triumph over host Schaumburg.

Peyton Hooker (9 kills, 1 block), Heidi Sayre (8 kills, 2 blocks) and Breslin Reid (7 kills) led the attack for the Vikings (15-4, 5-0) set by Rian Baker (8 assists) and Lydia Vander Ark (6 assists). Maddie Aichinger had 7 digs against the Saxons (8-10, 3-2).

The Vikes (15-4, 5-0) will travel to Barrington (11-8, 4-1) on Thursday in a match between the two teams in the MSL West.

Hersey d. Wheeling: Hersey (15-4, 5-0) received 10 kills, 7 digs, and 4 aces from junior Kati Kaburov in a hard-fought 25-23 22-25 25-23 triumph over the visiting Wildcats (11-13, 2-3). Alessia Olhava (15 assists, 2 blocks, 17 digs, 2 kills) and Kaiya Eshoo (13 digs, 7 assists, 1 kill) ran the offense for the Huskies, who also got top performances from Kate Lubbe (5 kills, 4 blocks), Karolina Wojdacz (5 kills, 2 aces, 9 digs, 2 aces), Janine Boyan (6 blocks, 1 kill), Juliette van den Herik (4 blocks, 1 kill) and Maddie Mullin (29 digs, 2 aces). Hersey pulled out the final set with help of an 8-point serving run by Kaburov and match-winning kill by Eshoo.

"Wheeling played inspired volleyball along with some outstanding defense," said Hersey coach Nancy Lill, whose team visits second-place Buffalo Grove on Thursday. "We are very happy to walk away with the win on a night where we were not at our best with several players battling illness and injuries. Wheeling left it out on the court and had us on the ropes until the long service run by Kati and final kill by Kaiya."

Barrington d. Palatine: Host Barrington remained one match behind Fremd in the MSL West with a 22-25, 25-19, 25-19 triumph. The Fillies (11-8, 4-1) were led by on attack by Peyton Tilly (13 kills, 3 digs, 4 aces, 7 points). Other top performers were Bailey Madrzyk (3 kills, 11 points, 1 aces, 6 digs), Tara Kozak (18 assists), Paige Ramel (3 blocks, 4 kills), Ola Magiera (3 kills), Lauren Carder (3 points, 1 aces, 3 digs), Sabrina Loutos (5 assists, 2 digs), Arianna Armando (6 digs, 1 ace 7 points), Mia Ruffolo (11 digs) and Noelle Daehler (4 kills 1 block). Palatine stands at 11-7 and 2-3.

Conant d. Hoffman Estates: Yuri Hara (6 kills, 7 digs), Bella Diopola (3 kills), Chikere Oduocha (6 kills, 5 blocks), Alison Chang (7 digs) and Mackenzie Lunkes (5 digs) helped lead the visiting Cougars (8-10, 2-3) to a 25-23, 25-17 MSL West triumph over the Hawks (1-12, 0-5).

Buffalo Grove d. Rolling Meadows: Calire Ferris (17 kills), Lauren Horvath (6 kills) Shannon Coglianese (5 kills) and Abby Kim (4 kills) led the offense for host BG (12-8, 4-1) in a 25-15, 23-25, 25-18 MSL East win. Maggie Streckert handed out 30 assists and had 15 digs. Kristen Belias (20 digs) and Nina Masciopinto (16) led the back row while Alyssa Ramos had a team-high 3 blocks. Ashlyn Ryan (12 kills) and Eleanor Errico (7 kills). Elise Kowalski (6 kills) and Leticia Avellaneda (5 kills) were attack leaders for the Mustangs (11-13, 3-2) which was set by Natalie Klancnik (85-of-86 25 assists) and Sophia Salemi (15-of-16, 1 assist). Salemi also led with 14 digs.

Maine West d. Vernon Hills: The visiting Warriors (11-9) improved to 3-1 in the CSL North with a 25-20, 25-22 win as Reilly Olson (7 kills, 8 digs, 3 aces), Ally Block (18 assists) and Kaylin Johnson (8 digs) helped lead the way.

Prospect d. Elk Grove: Grace Cacini and Elizabeth Abraham each put down 8 kills while Annie Wiley and Emma Cogan had 5 apiece to lead visiting Prospect to a 30-28 25-19 MSL East win. Sarah Skaggs handed out 19 assists and Cogan led the back row with 14 digs. Rachel Kandefer (4 kills, 5 blocks) and Grace Gallo (2 kills, 3 blocks) led the attack for EG (1-7, 0-5) while Megan Murray had 9 digs.

Harper d. Joliet: No. 8 Harper defeated No. 10 Joliet 25-27, 28-26, 25-19, 25-16 as the Hawks' Gabby Fugle put down 9 kills. Other leaders for the Hawks were Karolina Sas (20 digs), Kayla Agoranos (20 digs), Abby Wemple (5 blocks), Kathleen Gueco (45 assists) and Carlene Colton 21-of-24 serving, 4 aces, 17 digs).
