Libertyville grad Otto making history at Bucknell

Jack Otto is already making history at Bucknell University.

The Libertyville graduate is the first freshman to start in goal for John McBride in his seven-year tenure as the Division I men's water polo coach.

The Bison, ranked 14th, are off to an 8-1 start and travel to play George Washington and Navy on Saturday and Johns Hopkins on Sunday.

Otto has played 264 minutes, collecting 79 saves, 12 assists, 10 steals and owns 54.5 percent save rate (66 goals against).

"The team is really coming together and starting to play well as a group," Otto said. "We have been working really hard on our defense and it is beginning to show up and pay off in the way we play."

Men's cross country

Emory freshman Brett Lucas (Stevenson) finished the 8K course in 26.24.22 and finished 33rd of 227 runners in the Montevallo Falcon Classic in Alabama. Emory finished fourth behind Florida A&M, Lee (TN.) and Mississippi State in the 25-team field,

• Augustana senior Rob Williams (Vernon Hills) placed 34th in 26:33.7 and freshman Carl Schoetook took 61st place in a time of 27:04.4 at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island. The Vikings place third in the team standings in the 27-team meet.

Men's tennis

Augustana's season got off to a great at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Fall Tournament. The Vikings won seven of nine flight championships, including four in which Augustana occupied both finalist spots.

Two former Lake County athletes played key roles for the Vikings.

Augustana freshman Kyle Boudreau (Antioch) was a double winner.

Boudreau shared the fifth singles championship with junior Scott Daluga (Libertyville) and teamed with sophomore Guilherme Calixto (Calagria, Presidente Prudente, Sao Paulo, Brazil) to share the third doubles title.

At fifth singles, Boudreau bested Elmhurst's Chris Wallace 6-0, 6-2 in the quarters and Carthage's Fordy Leipold 6-3, 6-1 in the semis. Daluga reached the final with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Manish Pathuri of Illinois Wesleyan and a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Carthage's Kevin Dunn.

At No. 3 doubles, Boudreau and Calixto reached the final with wins over North Central's Saim Malik and Jon Stroede (8-2).

Men's soccer

Augustana junior Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson) is 2-3 in the goal with a 1.20 goals against average and a save percentage of .800. The defense in front of Klaber includes junior Daniel Artmann (Schaumburg).

Vikings senior Jack McKearnan (Warren) is one of the three Vikings who have goals this season.

Women's cross country

Augustana senior Mackenzie Renihan (Vernon Hills) was the second finisher for the Vikings at the 27-team Brissman-Lundeen Invitational at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island. She was 27th in 23:45.1 as the Vikings placed sixth in the team standings with 166 points. North Central won the meet with 67.
