Hart, Glenbard West win in Peoria

Led by individual winner and two-time Class 3A champion Katelynne Hart, Glenbard West won the girls championship of the Richard Spring Cross Country Invite Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

The Wheaton Warrenville South boys team, ranked No. 1 in the Illinois Cross Country Coaches Poll, won the boys team title at Detweiller, where the state meet is held.

Paced by Hilltoppers junior Hart's time of 16 minutes, 14.7 seconds and fifth overall finisher Katie Hohe, Glenbard West's 131 team points were two better than the girls team of Wheaton Warrenville South, led by third-place finisher Samantha Poglitsch and 14th-place finisher Laurel Moneysmith.

Hart's time was more than 32 seconds faster than runner-up Alice Abbott of St. Charles East.

Hinsdale Central junior McKenna Revord finished eighth overall to lead the Red Devils to a sixth-place team finish. York placed eighth out of the 64 full teams competing.

Lake Park sophomore Mariam Slimane and WW South junior Kaitlyn Nenninger ran to top-20 individual finishes.

WW South's boys team placed all five scoring runners among the top 12 individuals to score 42 points and handily defeat St. Charles East (116) and third-place Neuqua Valley (145). Paced by Scott Maison in fourth-place individually for the Tigers, William Hauenstein, Sean Maison, Jacob Kluckhohn and David Zeller all ran to top-20 finishes.

York junior Ethan Kern, running the course in 14:41.7, finished second overall to Hersey's Josh Methner, at 14:37.9. The Dukes' Daniel Klysh, Neuqua Valley's Michael Madiol and Chris Keeley, Wheaton North's Connor Zydek and Naperville North's Nick Trattner all placed among the 19 fastest individuals.

York placed sixth in the team standings followed by Naperville Central in seventh, led by senior Thomas Shilgalis.
