Girls volleyball: Stevenson 2nd at Maine East

Stevenson's girls volleyball team finished in second place at the Niles West tournament, despite suffering a pair of three-set losses Saturday after winning three matches Friday night.

After dropping a 25-14, 21-25, 17-15 decision to Evanston, Stevenson lost to Niles West 25-21, 17-25, 26-24, despite Sophie Sorenson's 11 kills and 19 digs. The Patriots (11-5, 3-2 tourney) also got 7 kills apiece from Annie Armgardt and Lily Cozzi. Makayla Uremovich added 4 kills, Grace Tully dished out 18 assists, Molly Bourbon had 15 assists and Abby Keevins notched 10 digs.

Wauconda split its two matches Saturday to finish 1-4 in the two-day tournament.

Erika Kraml had 17 kills, 23 digs and 3 aces for Wauconda (6-15). Savannah Johnson tallied 14 kills, 40 assists, 12 aces, 25 digs and 3 blocks.

At Maine East: After capturing wins over Oak Forest, Prospect and Deerfield on Friday, Warren closed out the tournament with losses to DeLaSalle (25-19, 19-25, 25-22) and Naperville North (25-14, 25-15).

Ella White racked up 44 kills for Warren (18-4) over the five matches, while Abby Berkowicz had 59 assists, 21 aces and 20 digs. The Blue Devils also got 27 kills from Dana Lundtveit, 26 digs and 8 aces from Ellie Columbus, 40 assists from Kayla Klemz and 53 digs from Amanda Howe.

At Belvidere North: Grayslake North finished fifth, winning the consolation championship.

The Knights (8-12) defeated Woodstock North in three to end the day. All-tournament libero Lexie Baker had 60 digs, and Emmy Bongiovanni notched 17 block kills for Grayslake North. The Knights also received contributions from Alyssa Gerzel (22 kills), Jessica Pozezinski (20 kills), Lindsey Diep (35 assists) and Abby Cunningham (35 assists).

At Oak Lawn: Vernon Hills lost to Lincoln-Way Central (25-13, 25-11) but picked up wins over Oak Lawn JV (25-16, 25-9) and Rich Central (25-14, 25-12).

Vernon Hills is 6-10.

At Wheaton Warrenville South: On final-day action of the Wheaton Classic, Libertyville defeated Wheaton Warrenville South (25-17, 25-23) and Plainfield North (25-15, 20-25, 25-21), before losing to Prairie Ridge (23-25, 39-37, 25-19).

Sophomore setter Peyton O'Brien was named to the all-tournament team for Libertyville, which finished 10th.
