Lakes roars past Grayslake North

DeAngelo Hardy did almost everything for his team on a homecoming night for a victory.

The senior scored five rushing touchdowns, threw a fourth-down pass for 21 yards, caught an interception and was the Eagles punter on three occasions.

On this historic night, Lakes soared past the Grayslake North 55-44 in the Northern Lake County Conference game on Friday night.

Hardy (30 carries, 265 yards) with touchdowns of 3, 6, 7, 32 and 46 yards.

"It was exhausting," Hardy said, "It was an eventful night and a back and forth game. We all played hard, finished and executed. We just have to look forward to our next game. It's not about me, it's about the team. I do anything I can to help the team."

Dylan DeAngelo also had two other rushing touchdowns from 3 and 5 yards. Also, Dylan Keilwitz caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Chris Selig for another score.

The Eagles (3-1, 2-0) held a 21-point first half lead and 22-point advantage late in the third quarter.

"I haven't been in a game that high scoring of a game," Lakes coach Jordan Eder said. "But back and forth, close ones like that. it turned to be a track meet in the second half. I thought we would be pitting them away, but (Grayslake North) kept fighting back making big plays and making it a game. Hats off to them and they kept fighting."

Grayslake North (0-4. 0-2) rallied back with two touchdowns in 21 seconds that closed the lead to 42-36 with 6:42 left in the fourth quarter. Joe Swanson caught a 65-yard TD pass from Austin Martineau (19 of 37 for 234 yards and 5 touchdown passes). Then, Jordan Curtis caught a 45-yard pass reception for a TD with 6:21 remaining after an onside kick fumbled recovery.

Each team exchanged scores the rest of the way, even though the Knights had closed the game to 49-44, Tony Hines returned a 85-yard kickoff return with 4:23 left.

Hardy closed the door for the Eagles with a 32-yard scamper into the end with 1:37 remaining for the 55-44 difference.

"Boy it was a crazy football game," Grayslake North coach Sam Baker said. "It would've been nice to come out on top."
