Bolingbrook comes back to deny St. Charles North

It was the moment St. Charles North's football team had hoped for - a two-score lead -a two-touchdown lead.

As Tyler Nubin tumbled into the end zone with 4:02 left in the third quarter, the North Stars were on their way to a 24-10 lead.

From that moment, the evening slid downward for the visitors. Quentin Pringle raced 80 yards on Bolingbrook's first play of the next drive, the first of 24 unanswered points as the Raiders won the nonconference contest 34-24.

"We were talking on the headset that we had to keep the top on their offense because you can't give up the big play to them. Pringle rattles off that 80-yard run, and that just can't happen," St Charles North coach Rob Pomazak said.

Pringle scored on runs of 45 and 56 yards in the fourth quarter and finished with 229 yards and 4 TDs from 9 carries as the Raiders improved to 2-0 and the North Stars dropped to 1-1.

"You can't win if that happens. You've got to finish and we didn't. We played two and a half quarters," Pomazak said.

Offensively, the North Stars moved the ball for much of the game with first-time starter Kyler Brown, who was 11 for 21 and had 2 TD passes to Alec Kritta as well as 2 interceptions.

"We took a backup offense who had zero experience against the seventh-rated team in the state for 8A and (Brown) did a great job. He kept us in the game and he made some great passes," Pomazak said.

The game was played with storms nearby, though lightning didn't force a delay until 1:27 remained in the first half, with the contest tied 10-10.

Bolingbrook struck first after taking a short North Stars punt. The drive stalled, however, and Gerardo Paz hit a 25-yard field goal.

St. Charles rallied, recovered a Raiders fumble and roused the crowd when Brown hit Kritta moving left-to-right across the end zone.

After a short Bolingbrook punt, the North Stars moved to the 19, from where Luke Barresi extended the lead with a 36-yard field goal.

Bolingbrook fought back and moved 80 yards in 3:09 and tied the game on a 24-yard, tackle-breaking TD run by Pringle and Paz's extra point.

The lightning delay came before the game restarted following Pringle's touchdown. The North Stars scored immediately after the restart on Brown's second long TD pass of the half. Nubin's third quarter TD run were the only second half points the North Stars scored.

In the sophomore game, Bolingbrook broke open a close game late in the fourth quarter and defeated St. Charles North, 32-21.
