Girls volleyball: Huntley handles Dundee-Crown
Junior Taylor Jakubowski spread around 18 assists leading Huntley to a 25-10, 25-9 win over Dundee-Crown Tuesday night in the season opener for both Fox Valley Conference teams.
Emma Konie paced a balanced attack with 5 kills, and Loren Alberts and Julia Johnson both had 4. Alberts and Johnson both added 3 solo blocks while Josie Schmitendorf led in digs with 11, and Sarah Zayas had 7.
For Dundee-Crown, Payton Schmidt had 3 kills and a block, Hannah Krispin had 2 kills, Jenna Brown set 4 assists and had 3 digs, Natalia Smiech added 2 assists and 3 digs, and Claire Muhvic led the Chargers with 4 digs.
Kaneland d. Burlington Central: The Knights won 25-17, 25-21 behind 9 kills from Katie Jablonski, 5 by Sydney Fedderly, and 4 each from Grace Franz and Natalie Kraemer.
Shelby Hannula served 6 aces, Fedderly set 15 assists and Franz dug 10 balls with Julianna Vassallo right behind with 9 digs.
St. Edward d. Larkin: The Royals fell to 0-2 despite 8 assists from Elizabeth Bowman and Lauren Anliker's 2 aces and 3 kills.
Larkin returns to action Saturday at Elgin High School in Elgin's tournament against Streamwood, Bartlett and Elgin.
Geneva d. East Aurora: The Vikings won their season opener 25-6, 25-5. Eli Ford served 9 of Geneva's 14 aces. Avery Brown paced the team with 8 kills and Devynn Day and Ford both had 4. Grace Hinchman led with 9 digs.
Naperville Central d. West Aurora: Playing short-handed without their starting middle, the Blackhawks lost 25-16, 25-20. Kendra Battle (5 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs), Olivia McPherson (5 kills, 9 digs) and Lauren Greenwood (5 kills) led West Aurora.
