Cougars fall to Burlington Bees

BURLINGTON, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars dropped the rubber game of a three-game series Monday night, losing 2-1 against the Burlington Bees on Monday night at Community Field.

For the second straight time to the mound, Cougar starter Cole Bartlett tossed seven innings, allowing only two runs. The right-hander scattered eight hits, struck out two and walked none. However, Bartlett (3-2) suffered the loss.

The Cougars (55-57, 20-23) backed Bartlett with a run in the top of the first inning. Yoel Yanqui reached on a one-out single. Tim Susnara drove in Yanqui with a two-out base hit, giving the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.

The Bees (44-66, 14-27) scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first. With one out, Leonardo Rivas doubled. Orlando Martinez followed with a single, advancing Rivas to third. The next hitter, Kevin Williams, doubled to plate both runners and push Burlington ahead, 2-1.

Bees' starter Michael Santos (3-1) made the lead stand up. He tossed five innings of one-run ball with four hits, three strikeouts and no walks. Former Cougar Anfernee Benitez hurled 1.1 innings of shutout ball out of the bullpen. Eduardo Del Rosario earned an eight-out save without allowing a hit and striking out five batters.

After Bartlett finished seven innings for the Cougars on the mound, Kyler Stout tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
