Reports: Chicago Bulls trade Grant to Magic

Trimming the roster figured to be a task on the Chicago Bulls' to-do list this summer. The process began Saturday, with guard Jerian Grant on his way to Orlando as part of a three-team trade, according to multiple reports.

Grant's departure seemed inevitable once Bulls vice president of basketball operations John Paxson talked about Cameron Payne serving as the backup point guard the day after the season ended.

The trade, as reported by ESPN, has Charlotte and Orlando exchanging centers, with Bismack Biyombo headed to the Hornets and Timofey Mozgov to the Magic. The Bulls will receive Julyan Stone, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from UTEP who has 70 games of NBA experience under his belt.

Stone hasn't produced many stats, averaging 0.9 points and 0.6 assists in the NBA. It's possible the Bulls could take a look at him in training camp. More likely, they'll release his non-guaranteed contract in a few weeks.

Grant spent two seasons with the Bulls and played very well at times. Inconsistent play led to a loss of playing time and now a departure from the Bulls.

Grant averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 assists last season. He could find some opportunity in Orlando, which traded away former lottery pick Elfrid Payton last season.

Former Bull D.J. Augustin is the only other point guard currently on the Magic's roster.

There's no real news on the Zach LaVine offer sheet from Sacramento. The Bulls will match the four-year, $78-million deal. It's just a matter of when it becomes official.
