Baseball: Marmion, Aurora Central post regional wins
Brandon McPherson fired a 2-hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks Thursday as Marmion defeated Batavia 5-0 in the semifinals of the Class 4A St. Charles East baseball regional.
The Cadets (15-18) will take on the host Saints at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional title.
Leading the Marmion offense Thursday were Jack Molenhouse (3 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Nick Talarico (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Jake Carlson (2 hits, 2B).
Cole Nelson and Adam Bendoraitis had the only hits for Batavia (18-12).
ACC 4, St. Francis 0: At the Class 3A Kaneland regional, Matt Jeter tossed a 3-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead the Chargers (19-14) into Saturday's 11 a.m. title game against host Kaneland. Kyle Czerak had 2 doubles and an RBI for Aurora Central and Mikey Elliott added a double and an RBI.
CL Central 14, Jacobs 5: Crystal Lake Central scored 7 runs in the first inning and put an end to Jacobs' season at the Class 4A Crystal Lake South regional. Daniel Klein had a 2-run home run for Jacobs (18-13-1) while Braeden Wegner, Daniel Murray, Cory Dennison (2B) and Liam Oreskovich (2B) each had 2 hits.
Harlem 5, Hampshire 4: Harlem scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to eliminate Hampshire from the Class 4A Belvidere North regional. Andrew Krajecki had a double and a home run for the Whip-Purs (13-22) while Nicholas Tenny and Kevin Michaelsen added 2 hits each.
