Softball: St. Charles East, Geneva, Hampshire notch regional wins

Freshman Katie Arrambide had 2 hits with a double and an RBI and allowed just 5 hits in 6 innings in the circle Wednesday to lead the St. Charles East softball team to a 10-0 win over Schaumburg in the semifinals of the Class 4A Schaumburg regional.

Arrambide struck out 9 and walked 1 as the Saints (24-6) advanced to Saturday's 11 a.m. championship game against the winner of Thursday's semifinal between Lake Park and Elk Grove.

Also contributing to the SCE offense Wednesday were Paige Ligocki (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Hannah Cozzi (2 hits, 2B) and Krista Sbarra (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI).

Geneva 4, Yorkville 1: The Vikings avenged last year's regional loss with this win at the Class 4A Downers Grove South regional. Ali Dierks allowed 7 hits from the circle in moving her record to 13-7 as Geneva (22-7) advanced to Saturday's title game against host Downers South at 11 a.m.

Hampshire 14, Belvidere North 5: At the Class 4A Harlem regional, Morgan Haefling had 4 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI and Sarah Bowen added 3 hits with 2 doubles and 4 RBI for Hampshire. Shai-Ann Currie had 2 RBI for the Whip-Purs (15-12) and Gwen Malecke added 2 hits and an RBI. Currie was the winning pitcher, going 4⅔ innings and allowing 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. Hampshire will play host Harlem at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the regional title.

Rolling Meadows 18, South Elgin 8: The Storm saw their season come to an end in the semifinals of the Class 4A Rolling Meadows regional. Casey Brennan had a double and 3 RBI for South Elgin (16-12) while Geneva Pollman (HR), McKenna Eicholz (2 hits), Alivia Doyle (2 RBI), Kaylie Humes (2 hits) and Sami Koss (2B) also contributed.

McHenry 9, CL South 4: At the Class 4A Grant regional, Brooke Kuffel and Maddie Bush each had 2 hits and an RBI for Crystal Lake South (19-7).

Barrington 12, Cary-Grove 2: Kelly Johnson (2B), Alina Krembuszewski (2 hits, 3B) and Frankie Cruz (HR) led Cary-Grove (15-13) in its loss at the Class 4A Jacobs regional.
