Baseball: Naperville Central, Hinsdale Central, Waubonsie Valley win

Naperville Central 3, East Aurora 2:

Payton Thorne doubled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth for the Redhawks (16-15). Complete-game winning pitcher Zac Lis settled down after allowing 2 runs in the first inning, firing a 3-hitter. Tommy Carlsen and Jared Suchevits drove in runs in the second inning. Naperville Central faces Plainfield South in the Class 4A Naperville Central regional semifinals.

Hinsdale Central 3, Metea Valley 2:

The Red Devils (16-13) broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth inning when Ayden Head doubled home Joey Malcolm. Kyle Wisch went the distance on the mound, striking out eight. Andrew Cronin drove in 2 runs and Cade Sullivan had 2 hits for Metea Valley (18-15). Hinsdale Central advances to the Class 4A Hinsdale Central regional semifinals to play Plainfield East.

Waubonsie Valley 4, Oswego East 2:

The Warriors (7-25) scored twice in the top of the seventh to win in the Class 4A Plainfield North regional. Zach Laws singled in a run and the insurance run scored on a passed ball. Laws was the complete-game winner and went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Cole Gregorio had 2 hits. Waubonsie Valley faces Plainfield North in the regional semifinals.

St. Francis 11, Plano 0:

The Spartans (12-13) rolled into the Class 3A Kaneland regional semifinals to face Aurora Central, breaking open the five-inning game with an 8-run third inning. Nick Kosmetatos and Bennett Eltoft each homered and drove in 3 runs. Connor Cummings went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. Ryan Siurek and Nino Christopher had 2 hits apiece. Winning pitcher Ben Radel struck out six and allowed 2 hits in 4 innings.

Wheaton Academy 16, IMSA 1:

An 8-run first inning helped power the Warriors (15-15) to the four-inning victory in the Class 3A Kaneland regional. J.D. Rienow went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI. Jared Kasper had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Mike Cortez, Jack Dykema and Jack Ryken combined on the mound. Wheaton Academy plays Kaneland in the regional semifinals.
