Baseball: Aurora Christian, Elgin Academy win 1A regional titles

Jake Kuntzendorf fired a five-inning no-hitter Saturday as Aurora Christian's baseball team defeated Kirkland Hiawatha 10-0 to win the Class 1A Aurora Christian regional championship.

The Eagles (28-2) will take on Elgin Academy at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Harvest Christian sectional semifinals at Judson University in Elgin.

Kuntzendorf struck out 13 and walked 2 on Saturday and got offensive support from Clark Turek (2B, RBI), Trey Madsen (3B), Zach Zavasnik (2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Evan Stoneberg (2B, RBI).

Elgin Academy 8, North Shore Country Day 0: Ethan Plantz had 4 hits with a double and an RBI and Jonathan Cruz added 3 hits with a home run, double and 4 RBI as Elgin Academy (19-5) won the Class 1A Walther Christian regional title, the Hilltoppers' third straight regional crown. Colin Konicek added 2 hits and Jordan Hare had 2 RBI for EA, which will play Aurora Christian at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Harvest Christian sectional semifinals at Judson University. Ethan Hill was Saturday's winning pitcher, allowing 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Huntley 10, CL South 4: Huntley clinched the Fox Valley Conference title behind Eli Paplanus, who threw 5⅔ innings and allowed just 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Offensively the Red Raiders (27-6, 19-5) were led by Michael Talesky (3 hits, 2B, RBI), Jordan Goldstein (3 hits, RBI), Kamrin Hoffmann (2B, 3 RBI) and Matt Rodriguez (2 hits, HR, 3 RBI).

DeKalb 10, Elgin 9: Jack Sitter had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI for the Maroons (7-25) in this nonconference loss. John Fortmann (2 RBI), Tim Mitchell (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Kyle Coates (2 hits) also contributed for Elgin.

Plainfield South 4, St. Charles North 2: Steve Hamer had a double and 2 RBI for SCN (23-6-1) in a nonconference loss. Tristan Cazel suffered the loss on the mound for the North Stars.

Neuqua Valley 11, St. Charles East 6: Cole Conn had 2 his including a grand slam home run for the Saints (22-9-1) in a nonconference defeat. John DelloStritto added 2 hits and an RBI for SCE.

Wheaton North 13, Marmion 3: Nick Talarico (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Brandon McPherson (2B, RBI) and Jack Molenhouse (2B, RBI) led Marmion (13-18) in this nonconference loss.

Lincoln-Way Central 11, ACC 4: Mikey Elliott had 3 hits, Kyle Czerak a double and Mac Doherty 2 RBI for Aurora Central (18-14) in nonconference play.
