Girls water polo: Scouting the MSL title game

Conant (24-4) vs. Hersey (23-3), 6 p.m. Thursday at ProspectBackground: Conant is the league's defending champ, while Hersey is making its first league title game appearance since 2013. Both teams were unbeaten against their divisional foes to earn their spots in the overall championship game.

Hersey was unbeaten for much of the season before suffering three recent losses - each to quality nonconference foes, and each by close scores. Among the key players in what is shaping up as the Huskies' best-ever season under coach Megan Brownley are Katie Lindgren, Megan Pfeiffer, Madison Burkhalter, Jessica Tichansky, Emily Born, Annie Lindgren and goalie Claire Lutz. Conant's top two scorers have been Olivia Olszewski and Nia Tsoulos, and coach Justin Bickus' team has excelled defensively with Lauren Day as the last line of defense in goal. Conant earned the top seed in the Schaumburg sectional and Hersey is No. 2, so it wouldn't be surprising if these same teams meet again next week with a state tournament berth at stake.
