Softball: Luciano strikes out 10 in Hersey's win over Conant

Hersey junior Brianna Luciano threw a 5-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Huskies rallied with 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to top visiting Conant 6-3 in the Mid-Suburban League crossover on Friday.

The Huskies scored in the 4-run inning when Chloe Gordon and Asia Luboyeski each reached on errors to make it 4-3. Makayla Tsagalis then delivered a 2-run single to make it 6-3.

"Brianna (4-2) was lights out on the mound," said Hersey coach Moly Freeman, whose team improved to 11-3 and 6-2. "She was dynamite. And Makayla has been waiting for a big hit and she got it tonight with at 2-run single."

Jodi Hermann went 2-for-3 and Hannah Graff had a double for the Huskies while Makenna McCarthy was 2-for-4 for Conant (9-6, 5-3) with a double. Cougars pitcher Jackie Carlucci struck out three and only allowed 5 hits, too.

Elk Grove 13, Fremd 0 (5 inn.): Before an out was made in the bottom of the first inning, Elk Grove sophomore catcher Katia Pendowski (4-for-4, 5 RBI) belted her eighth homer of the season, a 3-run bast over the right center field fence and the host Grenadiers (8-8, 4-3) never looked back in the MSL crossover.

Other multiple hitters for EG were Oliva Masnica (2-for-4, 2 doubles) and Grace Engwall (2-for-3, double).

Sophomore Lauren Clausen (4-2) earned the win, striking out eight.

Anna Freveletti doubled for one the 3 hits by Fremd (10-6, 4-3).

Rolling Meadows 19, Hoffman Estates 7 (5 inn.): Parker Cavanaugh's 3-run homer ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning by the 10-run rule. Sara Benner hit a 2-run homer in the second inning for RM and teammate Stephanie Thompson belted a grand slam in third inning.

Multiple hitters for the Mustangs (7-10, 4-5) were Samantha Allen (2-for-3), Thompson (3-for-4, 6 RBI, double), Cavanaugh (2-for-4), Kendra Herring (3-for-4, 2 doubles), Sara Benner (4-for-4, 2 doubles) and Samantha Benner (2-for-3). Teammate Caroline Slowik also doubled.

Herring went all five inning for the Mustangs, striking out four to notch her first win of the season.

Mary Bean belted a solo homer for Hoffman (3-8-1, 2-4) while Giselle Valezquez had a double. Hawks pitcher Emily Grossi went 2-for-2.

Barrington 17, Wheeling 0 (5 inn.): Senior Caroline Hoppe fired 3-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Barrington (18-2, 8-0) won the MSL crossover. Rachel Mori belted her first homer of the year for the visiting Fillies while Tori Meyer and Samantha Murphy each doubled.

Nikki Ferraro, Emily Lacaeyse and Peyton Lacaeyse (double) had the hits for Wheeling (0-10, 0-7).
