Baseball: Benet, Glenbard East, Naperville North win

Benet 9, St. Viator 7:

The Redwings (9-7, 5-2) seized control of the East Suburban Catholic game with a 6-run second inning, then held off a late rally by St. Viator. Mike Wymer went 3-for-4 while Aaron Staehely drove in 2 runs and Andrew Prisby had 2 hits.

Glenbard East 5, Bartlett 0:

Jacob Bailey fired a 4-hitter with 9 strikeouts and no walks as the Rams (15-5, 7-0 Upstate Eight) swept Bartlett and won for the 11th time in 13 games. Jack Crackel homered and drove in 2 runs. Jeremy Johnson went 2-for-3.

Naperville North 8, Glenbard North 1:

Complete-game winning pitcher Jared Dunnett went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Huskies (11-6, 5-5), who swept in the DuPage Valley. Jack Whitley went 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI. Dom Rotundo, Jim Zay and Jon Martinez had 2 hits apiece for Glenbard North (5-11, 0-9).

Wheaton North 4, Lake Park 2:

The score was tied 2-2 until the Falcons (13-5, 9-2) broke through for a run in the fourth and sixth inning. Andy Nelson got the win with 5 innings of work, and Joe Klein closed for the save. Klein doubled twice and Tyler Woltman drove in 2 runs.

Lisle 9, Manteno 6:

Zack Heidenry gutted out the complete-game victory for the Lions (12-8, 6-2) in the Interstate Eight. Connor Nigro and Dylan Laue each drove in 2 runs.

Glenbard South 5, Timothy Christian 4:

The Raiders (9-9, 7-3 Metro Suburban) won for the fifth straight time, scoring all their runs in the fifth inning. Winning pitcher Mike Paprota drove in 2 runs while Nick Atkinson, Drew Vozza and Jack Dupuis went 2-for-4. Harrison Stanton went 3-for-4 and Jimmy Allen had 2 RBI for Timothy Christian (9-10, 4-6).

WW South 6, Naperville Central 5:

The Tigers (7-10, 5-8) rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the DuPage Valley. Matt Brennan homered while Joe Adamek and Patrick McGarry each had 2 hits. Matt Scherrman pitched into the sixth inning to earn the win. Sam Hojnar, Payton Thorne and Braden Lindmark had 2 hits for Naperville Central (10-8, 7-6).

Metea Valley 8, Waubonsie Valley 4:

Jake Kmiecik, Cade Sullivan, Carter Wardell, Clay Billadeau and Jason Kirchner combined for 10 hits and 7 RBI as the Mustangs (8-9, 5-7) took two of three in the DuPage Valley series. Patrick Straub scattered 5 hits in 5 innings. Zach Laws went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Waubonsie Valley (5-13, 4-8).

Neuqua Valley 8, Lockport 5:

The Wildcats (16-0) exploded for 7 runs in the opening inning of their nonconference victory. Noah Ernst homered and drove in 4 runs. Kyle Pettingill and Casey Pickering combined on the mound.

Hinsdale South 8, Addison Trail 3:

The Hornets (8-7, 4-2 West Suburban Gold) broke out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. Paris Lewis, Jake Klepacz and Jack Lombardo drove in 2 runs. A.J. Parnell went 2-for-4 for Addison Trail (9-9, 6-5).

Montini 15, Bishop McNamara 8:

Ten players accounted for 15 hits by the Broncos (10-8, 4-3 Chicago Catholic League). Michael Sclafani homered and drove in 2 runs. Ryan Nelson and winning pitcher Michael Koszewski also had 2 RBI.

Wheaton Academy 7, St. Edward 6:

Mike Cortez and Luke Roman homered for the Warriors (6-11, 4-6) in their Metro Suburban victory. Winning pitcher Payton Sowa struck out seven in 5⅔ innings. Shane Baumgarten notched the save.

Westmont 6, Intrinsic 5:

Riley Basit doubled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Sentinels (10-9). Basit drove in 3 runs while Zak Fischer had 2 RBI. Bobby Risden was the winning pitcher in relief.

Downers South 14, Leyden 0:

The Mustangs (10-5, 6-1) took two of three in the West Suburban Gold series, winning in five innings. Winning pitcher Nick Stacey went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Jake Pileggi had 2 hits and 3 RBI while Brett Riegler drove in 2 runs.
