Baseball: Huntley, Jacobs split FVC twinbill

Hunter Rumachik blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday to give Huntley's baseball team a 5-4 win and a split of a Fox Valley Conference doubleheader against Jacobs.

Rumachik, the Red Raiders' starting pitcher, had 3 hits in the game. Jason Peters added 2 doubles and 2 RBI for Huntley (12-3, 4-2).

Evan Tocmo pitched the final 3 innings to earn the win on the mound.

Bryce Vincent had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI for Jacobs while Daniel Klein and Braeden Wegner added 2 hits each.

Jacobs won the opener 4-2 as Liam Oreskovich had 2 RBI, Cory Dennison 2 hits and an RBI and Daniel Murray 2 hits.

Anthony Wilson went 6 innings and allowed 7 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks for the Golden Eagles (6-4, 4-1). Matt Camp picked up the save.

Peters had 3 hits with a double and an RBI for Huntley while Jordan Goldstein added 2 doubles.

Earlier in the day, Conant scored twice in the top of the seventh to upend Jacobs 4-3 in a nonconference game.

Cary-Grove 9, Dundee-Crown 3: Ryan Ignoffo continued his Javy Baez-like week at the plate for the Trojans with 2 hits including a home run and 3 RBI as C-G (11-2-1, 5-2) won this FVC game. Tristan Atkins (2 hits, 2B), Billy Blank (2B, RBI), Matt Breig (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Quinn Priester (3 hits) also contributed for Cary-Grove. Brandon Meinke was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings and allowing 7 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. Erik Hedmark had 2 RBI for D-C (3-10, 2-5) while Evan Wenc added 2 hits and an RBI and Jordan Lyter had 2 hits.

PR sweeps CL South: Crystal Lake South had a tough day at the yard, falling to Prairie Ridge 5-1 and 12-5 in an FVC twinbill. Steven Siavelis and Evan Jewson (RBI) each had 2 hits in the opener for the Gators (5-7-1, 2-5). In Game 2, Jewson had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI.

CL Central 12, Hampshire 2: Benjamin Corcelles had 2 hits and an RBI for Hampshire (7-9, 1-7) in its FVC loss.

St. Charles North 5, West Aurora 3: Justin Dunne had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Erik Larson added 2 hits for St. Charles North (8-1-1, 4-0-1) in its UEC crossover win. Tristan Cazel picked up the win for the North Stars allowing 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks. Christian Erickson earned the save. JJ Rivera had 3 hits for West Aurora (6-6, 0-3) while Danny Marion added a double and an RBI and Anthony Malczyk had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Alberto Martinez suffered the loss despite striking out 8 in 5 innings.

Streamwood 6, West Chicago 0: Colin Caminitti fired a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Sabres (7-4, 2-3) to this UEC win. He also had 2 hits and 2 RBI while AJ Reyna (2 hits) and Michael Pawilkowski (2B, RBI) also contributed.

Elgin 3, East Aurora 0: Matthew Turner threw a 2-hitter with 14 strikeouts and 1 walk and added 2 hits and an RBI at the plate to lead Elgin (3-12, 1-7) to an UEC win. Jack Sitter (2 doubles), Cameron Jackson (3B) and Cameron Kendall (2 RBI) also added to the Maroons' offense.

ACC splits: Hunter Darnell had 2 hits with a double and an RBI and Eric Valles knocked in 2 runs as Aurora Central won Game 2 of a Metro Suburban doubleheader against Wheaton Academy 4-1 after dropping the opener 2-0. Chris Cartwright added 2 RBI in the win for the Chargers (12-5, 4-3) and Michael Rivas went 5 innings allowing 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk for the win. In the Game 1 loss, Cartwright had a double for ACC and Nathan Sundberg was the tough-luck loser, allowing just 3 hits and no earned runs with 3 strikeouts and no walks in 5 innings.

Aurora Christian 6, Harvest Christian 4: Nick Ports (2 hits, 2 RBI), Sam Tickel (3B, RBI) and Clark Turek (2 hits, RBI) led the Eagles (11-1, 4-0) to this Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Jake Kuntzendorf was the winning pitcher. Joey Pepper had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for Harvest (7-6, 4-4) while Drew Lewis added 2 hits and an RBI and Grant Young had 2 hits and an RBI.

Westminster sweeps: Mason Runkel and Frankie Schlaffer combined on a 2-hitter as Westminster Christian downed Alden-Hebron 6-4 in Game 1 of a NAC doubleheader. Theron Dorsey (2B, RBI), Nathen Martinez (2 hits, RBI), Matthew Schulenburg (2B, RBI) and JT Stoll (2 RBI) led the Warriors' offense. Westminster (8-7, 4-1) won the opener 11-4 as Dorsey had a home run and 3 RBI, Schlaffer a double, Schulenburg 2 hits and Runkel 2 hits with a double, home run and 3 RBI. Winning pitcher Andrew Kurcz (5 IP, 3 hits, 8 Ks, 0 BBs) added 2 hits with a double, home run and 3 RBI.

Kaneland sweeps: Nick Panico drove in the winning run after Robbie Dudzinski had driven in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Kaneland opened a Northern Illinois Big XII East doubleheader with a 3-2 win over DeKalb. Luke Gomes added 2 hits for the Knights. Reece Sowell was the winning pitcher allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in a complete game effort. Kaneland then rolled to a 12-1 win in Game 2. Gomes (2B, RBI), Dudzinski (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Zach Farris (3 hits, 2B, RBI), Jon Alstott (2 hits, 2B, 4 RBI) and Thomas Shaw (2 hits, 2B) gave winning pitcher Alex Buchanan (5 IP, 4 hits, 8 Ks, 2 BBs) all the runs he needed to earn the win.

Elgin Academy sweeps: Ethan Hill allowed 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks while Reece Zonts (2 hits) and Jonathan Cruz (2 hits, 2B, RBI) provided the offense as Elgin Academy won Game 1 of an Independent School League doubleheader over Chicago U-High 2-0. In Game 2, the Hilltoppers (10-2, 4-0) prevailed 4-3 as Hill (3 hits) tripled and scored on an Ethan Plantz single in the bottom of the eighth. Cruz added 2 hits and an RBI and Derek Warren picked up the win in relief.

Geneva 10, Harlem 0: Ian Hanson had 2 hits with a double, home run and 4 RBI to lead the Vikings (4-8-1) to a nonconference win. Nick Black (2B), Dominic Guido (2B), Cullen Geary (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Josh Rose (2B) and Jackson Chase (2 hits) also produced for Geneva. Black was the winning pitcher, allowing just 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 innings.

St. Rita 3, Marmion 1: Dom Czerwinski had a double for the Cadets in their Chicago Catholic League loss. Michael Gatze suffered the loss despite allowing just 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings.

Genoa-Kingston 7, St. Edward 0: Ben Salzmann had the only 2 hits, including a double, for St. Edward (3-14) in its nonconference loss.
