Softball: Ruggles Ks 13 in Dundee-Crown's win

Sydney Ruggles struck out 13 while allowing just 2 hits Friday as Dundee-Crown's softball team defeated Crystal Lake Central 3-1 in a Fox Valley Conference game.

Ruggles also had a double for the Chargers (5-6, 3-1) while Cady English (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Claire Weeks (2B, RBI) and Deanna Origer (2B) also contributed to the offense for D-C.

CL South 7, Hampshire 6: Carly Chovanec (3 hits, RBI), Emily Sulikowski (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Alyssa Niketopoulos (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) led the Crystal Lake South (6-2, 2-1) offense in this FVC game. Lauren Schoen was the winning pitcher. Delany Rummell, Morgan Haefling and Sarah Bowen (2B, 2 RBI) each had 2 hits for Hampshire.

Huntley 9, McHenry 5: In an FVC game at Bandits Stadium, Tiffany Giese allowed 2 runs on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks in 6 innings of work and added 2 hits with a double at the plate for Huntley (10-2, 2-0). Teagan O'Rilley (2 hits, 3B, 2 RBI) and Sofia Tenuta (2 hits, 2 RBI) also produced at the plate for the Red Raiders.

Prairie Ridge 9, Jacobs 1: Jacobs had 9 hits but left 13 runners on base and made 6 errors in this FVC loss. Kerri Healy had 3 hits with 2 doubles for the Golden Eagles while Jess Mrzlak added 2 hits and an RBI and Hannah Slocum had a double.

St. Charles North 5, Streamwood 0: Winning pitcher Jill Waslawski (6 Ks, 2 BBs) had a double while Grace Quinn (2 hits, 2B), Grace Sobieski (2B, RBI), Alyssa Eby (2B, RBI), Sydney Eby (2 RBI) and Ashlyn Jozefowicz (3 hits, 2B) also contributed for the North Stars (7-2, 4-1) in their Upstate Eight River win. Gabby Cardinale, Laura Dietrich and Taylyr Crocilla each had 2 hits for Streamwood (4-5, 2-3), which had 9 hits but left 12 on base. Tessa Freedman added a double for the Sabres.

West Aurora 12, Glenbard East 0: Aislinn Strusz (2 RBI), Sophia Delgado (2 hits, RBI), Gab Drager (2 RBI) and Gabi Nilles (3 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) led West Aurora (3-6, 3-2) to this UEC Valley win. Payton Lundberg went 3⅓ innings and allowed 3 hits with 4 strikeouts to earn the win for the Blackhawks.

Burlington Central 9, Richmond 0: Julia Barnes tossed a 4-hitter with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks and added 2 RBI from the plate to lead BC (7-3, 2-1) to a Kishwaukee River win. Danielle Yurgil (2 hits, 2 RBI), Lindsay Jamrozek (3 hits, 2B, RBI), Reili Gardner (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Sarah Schmitt (2B) also contributed for the Rockets.

ACC 3, Fenton 1: Dani Brown struck out 17 with 2 walks while allowing 3 hits for Aurora Central (13-4, 1-1) in its Metro Suburban win. Alheli Velazques had 3 RBI and Casey Feltes a double for the Chargers.

Guerin 5, St. Edward 4: Losing pitcher Jessy Kramp had 2 hits with a home run and 2 RBI and Ashley Miller added a double for St. Edward (1-5, 1-3) in its MSC loss. Kramp struck out 9 and gave up 3 earned runs.

Sycamore 16, Rosary 3: Mikayla Cassidy had 2 hits with a double and Riley McCue added a triple and 2 RBI for Rosary in a nonconference loss.

Maine West 5, Geneva 1: Kate Geary had 2 hits with a double and Ali Dierks had an RBI for Geneva (9-3) at the Rolling Meadows tournament.
