Girls water polo: Hersey's perfect season continues

Hersey's unbeaten girls water polo team clinched an outright championship in the Mid-Suburban East on Wednesday by topping visiting Wheeling 15-6.

Senior Madison Burkhalter led the way for Hersey (20-0, 9-0) with 4 goals, and Meghan Pfeiffer, Ashley DaSilva, Katie Lindgren and Tamara Mladjenovic each scored twice.

Meghan Hergert had a pair of goals to pace Wheeling.

In the final set of MSL games on Monday, the Hersey and Prospect girls and boys varsity teams will play one another in consecutive games (at 5:45 and 6:45 p.m.) in the PanCam Games, an event to raise funds and awareness in the battle against Pancreatic Cancer.

Conant 16, Hoffman Estates 1: The Cougars clinched an outright championship in the Mid-Suburban West for a second straight season.

Leading the Cougars' offense were Sarah Erne (3), Olivia Olszewski (3), Aly Wooley (2), Nia Tsoulos (2), Abigail Hanley (2), Sydney Arnold (2), Gabi Konieczny (1) and Amy Rodriguez (1).

Lauren Day made 3 saves for Conant (20-4, 9-0), which will face Hersey on Thursday, May 3, for the MSL crown.

Prospect 7, Elk Grove 5: Visiting Prospect improved to 10-10 and 6-3 in the MSL East. The Knights were led by Ann Fulk and Colleen Boyle with 3 goals apiece while Caitlin Broz added 1.

Leading the Grenadiers (12-7, 6-3) were Rachel Ford (3 goals, 1 assist, 6 steals), Kaylee Hatfield (1 goal), Gillian Guerra (1 goal) and Abby Farmer (1 assist). Melena Herrera made 9 saves and had 3 assists.

Buffalo Grove 7, Rolling Meadows 3: Visiting Buffalo Grove (8-13, 3-6) won the MSL East match. Rolling Meadows (9-14, 3-6) received a pair of goals from junior Maggie Goodwin and one from senior Kaeley Hickey while Mustangs senior goalie Liyah Glaser collected 16 saves.
