Girls soccer: Juveland, Lisle clobber Coal City

Attack, attack, attack.

From the opening kickoff until 80 minutes later when the final horn sounded, that's what Lisle did in a thorough 8-0 beating of Coal City on Thursday night.

Setting the tone early, Lions freshman midfielder Alexis Juveland delivered a point-blank opportunity into the back of the net in the third minute of the game to give her team an early 1-0 lead.

These high-scoring efforts have become the norm lately for the Lions (5-0-1, 3-0-0 Interstate Eight Conference), who have scored 7 and 9 goals, respectively, in their last two contests.

"The nice thing about it is we are just working as a team so well," Lions coach Paul Kohorn said. "Our passes are on, everyone is working hard. I can't look on that field and find someone who isn't working. It's the beauty of this team this year."

Juveland added another goal nine minutes later, and senior teammate Corrie Hutchinson netted a goal in between Juveland's scores to give the Lions a 3-0 lead just 12 minutes into the game.

What wasn't decided was how many goals Juveland would finish with. The freshman completed her hat trick in the 54th minute by cashing in on another scoring opportunity in front of the Coalers net. It was the fourth time this season that a Lion has recorded a hat trick.

"She comes out and just works her tail off and there's no stopping her," Kohorn said about Juveland. "She played in a position she hasn't played all year, so you just have to credit her. We were missing one of our key players (Josie Brinegar) and she filled in just fantastic."

In addition to Juveland's trifecta of goals, fellow freshmen Tara Kane and Tori Solano also scored a goal apiece.

The Coalers managed just one shot on goal, which came on a 27th-minute scorcher that Lions goalie Grace Hoscheidt stopped.

"Without giving away too many state secrets, we've changed up how we play defense this year," Kohorn said. "I got to say the girls have adapted to it well and I think they enjoy doing it. One of our goals from the beginning of the season was to cut down on shots from the opposing team and increase our shots from what we did last year."
