Conant wins Schaumburg regional

Conant's wrestling team charged to the championship of the Class 3A Schaumburg regional on Saturday.

The Cougars finished with 211 points to top Lake Park (152) and third-place Schaumburg (128). The team victory qualifies Conant for a spot in the Oak Park-River Forest dual-team sectional.

Individually, the Cougars will be well represented at next weekend's Larkin sectional.

Regional champs for Conant included Alex Giuliano (120), Jeremy Conroy (126), Nicky Amato (138), Brayden Cosgrove (145), Filippo DeFrenza (160) and Cormac Kane (170).

Schaumburg's regional champs were Tony LaRocco at 113, Jack Lingle at 132 and Hadi Mashhadiabolghasem at heavyweight.

Elk Grove had a winner at 106 in Griffin McEnroe, and Larkin's Diego Facio won at 182.

Lake Park's champs were Vince Liebich at 152, Demarco Lee at 195 and Anthony Gulyk at 220.

at Dundee-Crown: Mid-Suburban League runner-up Barrington advanced to the Huntley dual-team sectional with a dominant performance.

The Broncos amassed 259 points, bettering runner-up Mundelein (146) by more than 100 points.

Winners for Barrington were Tucker Priola (113), Kai Conway (132), Luke Rasmussen (138), Markus Hartman (152), Jaritt Shinhoster (160), Daniel Rasmussen (170) and Jake Meyer (195).

Fremd senior Cole Riemer improved to 30-3 by winning the 145-pound championship by fall. The Vikes (102.5 points) placed fourth, behind Lake Zurich (118).

at Niles West: Maine South (242 points) edged out Evanston (215) for advancement to the team sectional, with Maine West finishing fourth at 142.

Regional champs for Maine West included senior Arsalan Afshar, who earned a 12-8 decision against Taft's Brendan Gallo at 132 pounds, and senior Jayton Hall, who pinned Maine South's James Nuzzo in 2:54 at 145.

at Leyden: Oak Park-River Forest rolled to the team title with 281.5 points, with Leyden placing fourth at 92.

The Eagles got a championship from junior Ryan Jaffary, who pinned Oak Park's Talvin Gibson in 1:02 at 220 pounds.

at Antioch: St. Viator's Jake Wolf and Elijah Black both won championship in Class 2A action.

Black, a junior, rolled past Grayslake Central's Adrien Cramer 7-1 at 170 pounds. Wolf, a senior, used a 4-3 decision against Wauconda's Zac Finn to win at 182.
