Steinhaus (22 points), Libertyville turn back Lake Forest
Josh Steinhaus scored 8 of his season-high 22 points in overtime, and Libertyville's boys basketball team stayed hot with a 65-60 win over visiting Lake Forest in a North Suburban Conference thriller Tuesday night.
It was the fourth win in a row for Libertyville (5-3, 3-0), which got 17 points from Drew Peterson.
Ben Gibson had 22 points for Lake Forest (3-5, 0-3).
"Both teams made some big shots tonight, as it was back and forth for the most part," Libertyville coach Brian Zyrkowski said.
Peterson's second 3-pointer of the fourth quarter came with less than 20 seconds remaining. In OT, Steinhaus hit a big 3 - his fifth of the game - and key free throws to seal it.
Chase Eyre had a big night on both ends of the floors, Zyrkowski said, finishing with 12 points. Libertyville also got 9 points from Travis Clark.
Carmel 61, Providence St. Mel 60: DaMone Williams-Gray scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers, to pace four players in double figures for the host Corsairs, who won the East Suburban Catholic Conference/Chicago Catholic League Challenge game.
Carmel (6-2) also got 12 points from Kimahri Wilson, 11 from Johnny Roeser and 10 from Zion Kilpatrick. The Corsairs led 49-43 after three quarters.
Providence St. Mel's Deon Jackson led all scorers with 23 points.
Warren 45, Lake Zurich 40: Branden Ellis scored 23 points, and the host Blue Devils rallied to win the North Suburban game.
Ian Schilling added 10 points for Warren, which improved to 6-3 and 2-1 in the NSC.
Lake Zurich, which got 13 points from Peter DiCerbo, fell to 5-2 and 1-2.
Zion-Benton 58, Stevenson 48: The visiting Patriots dropped their third game in a row to fall to 5-3 and 1-2 in the North Suburban.
Jackson Qualley and Samvit Ram had 13 and 11 points, respectively, as pace Stevenson. Luke Chieng had 9 points in the loss, Nick Bonk (2 points) grabbed 8 rebounds, and Matthew Ambrose (2 points) dished out 5 assists.
Zion-Benton's LaMar Auguillard led all scorers with 25 points and also had 8 rebounds. The Zee-Bees (1-2 NSC) got 11 points and 4 assists from Anthony French.
